Review: A Dumb Field Guide to the Worst Birds Ever

Review: A Dumb Field Guide to the Worst Birds Ever

A Dumb Birds Field Guide to the Worst Birds Ever by Matt KrachtI received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I really like books about birds, but it can get a bit boring as a lot of them are the same. So when I saw this one I was just instantly curious about it and I was prepared to laugh myself silly. Well, I can tell you this, I laughed myself silly.

This is a hilarious bird guide to show us what assholes birds are. From over excessive noise to lots of poop or scary appearances (including horrific feet). I love how the author was able to provide us real information about the birds from colours to semi-where-do-they-live, but at the same time also keep it silly/fun/light. I laughed quite a few times and I had fun reading this one. I learned some new things, and I loved the dedication of the author to show us what assholes/asshats/rude fellows birds are. And I fully agree with quite a few of those opinions as well.

The book is split up in various sections, from how to use the book (very important) to the birds themselves (from wastes of feathers to the horror the horror to conceited bastards) to other bits about birds from scary and horrific feet to how to figure out why a bird is an asshat. XD Yup, as you can hear the author went full for it. Dedication = 100%.

I liked the illustrations as well. The more serious ones of the birds, but also the silly ones, the more sketch-like illustrations.

Oh, and the scoring system was a delight, it was so random, and I loved that it wasn’t a fixed rating system but that the author made up new ones each time. From being rated on how hypnotic they are (just give it up) to how repetitive the calls are (too much) and more!

I also loved the names the author created for each bird, no worries, you will also get the normal name/latin name of the bird.

The only thing is that it did get a bit repetitive at times. That is really the only criticism I had.

All in all, I would recommend this book if you are looking for a bird watching book but with a fun spin to it all.

Star rating, 3.5 stars
