Review: I Was Reincarnated as the Heroine on the Verge of a Bad Ending, and I’m Determined to Fall in Love!, Vol.1 – Vol.4
A really fun manga about a girl being isekaied to a world and trying to get a higher rank PLUS find romance! This is a review for the first 4 volumes.
NOTE: I got all these 4 volumes through Comics Plus (library app that one of my libraries gives me access to), apparently they aren’t all out, but they are on the app, so I am guessing either the dates are not matching or Tokyopop just couldn’t wait anymore, haha.
In this one we meet a girl named Reine. Or well, she is now Reine, but she used to a be a girl from Japan who was crushed by her shelves of otome/romance games (what a way to go) and now she is stuck in this world. And whereas with a lot of these isekai the characters have memories of before or even get them as time moves on, Reine is totally amnesia. She has no clue about her family and who they are, she has no clue about school stuff (which makes ranking much harder), she has no clue about events, and many other things. The only things she knows are basic stuff. But the rest people have to tell her and she has to study hard. I loved that Reine didn’t just let it drag her down, instead she was very excited and happy. She had plans and she was there to do them and I was rooting for her. In the first volume she is still pretty oblivious but as the volumes go on we see her come out her shell more and more, make more friends, get more confident in what she can do, and other things. I loved it. And throughout she was studying the hardest.
Because in this school you have a rank system. S to F. F is what Reine is at the start of the book and that means that her school life is horrible. F-ranks are on the verge of being expelled, they are allowed to be bullied, they aren’t going to be happy. But we see that Reine wants a happy school life and she went full on studying. Starting with the very basics, asking all the guys and girls to help her out whenever she needed help. And I loved seeing her grow. I was just rooting for her and I was so hoping that she would get better. I am also glad that in the later volumes, even with her having achieved a higher rank, she doesn’t give up. Reine is so much fun!
I loved that no matter what Reine gives it her all. She is friendly. She is kind. I loved how sweet she was with her friends (and love interests).
I also loved seeing the cast of hot guys (and friendly girls) grow with each volume and her gaining more and more friendships (well, of course some love interests as well given how some guys are really happy to see her, haha).
Oh, but the step-sister was just MEH. I mean we already see that she is down for some serious shit, but throughout the book she was just horrible. I am sorry girl, Reine can’t help that Julius likes her and that Julius would rather spend time with Reine.
And the world was also a fun one and I would love to dive deeper into it.
But while I did like Julius in these 4 volumes and found him sweet and charming and definitely know that he and Reine aren’t related, I had a hard time with him. Because he is keeping secrets away from Reine. Reine still thinks he is her brother. Plus, we learn he is taking revenge and uses Reine for that???? And sorry, that makes the actions he is doing not very YAY in my book, that makes it more ICK. Date scenes are fun, but with Reine thinking he is her brother, eehhhhhhh. And then there is the whole fact that with each volume that he gets more possessive over her, calls it cheating if she spends time with another guy, tries to get her away from people, gets angry at the guys for spending time with Reine, and other things. It is just ICK, it is just EWW. I would forgive him a bit more if he was just darn honest about his relationship with Reine and what he is in her family, but it’s been 4 volumes, and the only thing he has done so far is fucking hint at it. TELL THE FUCKING TRUTH already. Good LORD. And let her have a little fun as well. She is clearly in love with you, but again YOU ARE HER BROTHER in her eyes (and several others). She cannot fully explore it, so she is all free to say hi to friends and potential other lovers.
The art in this one was pretty fun. The guys were soooooooo handsome. swoons I wouldn’t mind being Reine, haha. Though sorry to Julius, I would probably go for Yoshida or the prince.
Oh, I love the bonus chapters we get with the boys Reine has met. Like instead of her POV we get one of the guys, or we just get a little bit more in the lives of the boys. It was so fun and I am happy they were added!
All in all, I cannot wait for the next volume because the last chapter promised that the hike wouldn’t go as it will and I need to know if all my characters are safe. Plus, I need to know if Julius either tells the truth or chills a bit with how he acts around Reine.
