Review: My Vampire Plus-One

My Vampire Plus-One by Jenna Levine, cover with two colours red/burgundy and purple with on the left a guy who is a vampire and on the left a girl with a blue dress who is a human and they are holding arms“And there was my most prized possession: a framed oil painting of Edward Cullen on the wall above the sink, sparkly and magnificent as he gazed moodily into the middle distance.”

😍 Both Reggie and Amelia were such fun characters. You wanted to root for both (and hope for Reggie to find a better fashion sense than dressing like a stolen car (Frederick words, but I fully agree given what we read he is wearing). Amelia has her mom and other family members who push her for being single and working a lot, Reggie has a cult (as I would call them) after him because of an incident many many many years back. I loved learning more about these two characters, Reggie was in the first book a bit hard to love at times, but I really loved him more and more with each new bit we learned about him and see him interact with Amelia. He even is trying to make pancakes (with mixed success, haha). Amelia was such a sweet character and while she overworks a lot I love that she found something she loves and is good at it. OK, I was worried a bit that she would be boring (she is an accountant) but she is just wonderful.
😍 I love love love a fake dating trope especially when the two characters proceed to fall in love for real. I loved seeing the two of them make up all sorts of rules, see Reggie at times be totally clueless about things and almost go too far, and see them get closer and closer and closer. I was rooting for these two, they had some serious chemistry and I just wanted them together for real. Maybe even talk about forever.
😍 Sorry Reggie, but did you really think it was a good idea to tell Amelia about you being a vampire at that time? This made me laugh, especially since Amelia was totally clueless and just thought he was constantly joking or just being obscure about things.
😍 It made me happy that at one point he truly told her and I was so happy with her reaction. Reggie was expecting the worst. Though I already knew how Amelia would be.
😍 Love the Dual POV that this book has. We get to see both sides and see two characters fall in love. Hard. Plus, we get to learn more about both the characters, not just one of them.
😍 Also love the addition of texts, mails, messages, bullet journal bits, and more. It just made it more fun to read.
😍 The cover is just so fun! I love the shadows especially. Reggie’s shadow being a classic vampire.
😍 I did think it was hilarious that The Collective was still so gung-ho on capturing Reggie. But also went at it in all the wrong ways. You would think after so many years they would just be like, eh, never mind, but instead they kept going.
😍 Hello trope that I love, the snowed-in and nowhere to go trope.
😍 Amelia’s best friend was just fantastic. I love how she was there for Amelia even with a busy life herself. Taking care of Amelia’s cat when Amelia was working way too hard, but also sharing clothes, and wanting to get all the deets on Amelia x Reggie.
😍 Gracie the cat was just the cutest.
😍 This made me both laugh but also love it, Reggie’s bullet journaling. How dedicated he got with it. From first being dismissive about it to trying it out to totally falling in love with it and adding not just notes and little texts but also adding stickers and items to the mix. Plus, he even went on a discord to talk to a group of people doing the same hobby and getting not just tips on bullet journaling but also on love. Which is adorable.
😍 Seeing Frederick and Cassie again and get some more deets on their life and how things are going romantically. A big event, or well, two big events happen and I was just squeeing in delight.
😍 The last part with The Collective and how that is handled. That was just the best way to handle it even if things got a bit tense. I was just cheering for Amelia here, because she kicked some serious butt.

🤨 I did find it weird that Amelia never saw the connection between her client and the ones that are after Reggie. I am sorry, but for us readers it was so obvious given everything. But it took Amelia till the end to figure things out.
🤨 I am kinda tired of the trope of vampires not trying to keep up with the modern days. I would love to see a vampire who is totally up to date with all the latest things, loves social media, knows all the shows on streaming sites, and so on.
🤨 I could understand The Collective to enter the building that Reggie lives in, but how did they get in his home? Maybe the lore is different here, but generally apartment buildings don’t count as one thing. At least, all the things I have seen/read have vampires ask the respective owners of each part to enter their homes.

All in all, just like the first book this one was just 100% fun and I loved every bit of it. I cannot wait for the next book in the series~
