Waiting on Wednesday ~ Tío and Tío: The Ring Bearers by Ross Matthews, Wellinthon García-Mathew
Evening all~
Happy humpday, happy Wednesday!! Welcome to a new Waiting on Wednesday!
Today’s eagerly anticipated book is the very sweet-looking and sweet-sounding: Tío and Tío: The Ring Bearers by Ross Matthews, Wellinthon García-Mathew! About two brothers visiting Mexico to attend their uncles wedding. I came across this one on BlueSky and I am happy I did. Just look at that cover, so sweet! I also love that next to the wedding we also get to read about culture, about family, and Mexico.
Now I just gotta wait until April 15th!
From Ross Mathews (The Drew Barrymore Show and RuPaul’s Drag Race) and his husband, Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews, comes a heartwarming and humorous tale of love and family as two young boys travel to Mexico to be ring bearers in their uncles’ wedding.
Two Dominican American brothers, Emilio and Andrés, travel to Mexico to attend their uncles’ wedding. Although encouraged by their parents to speak Spanish, embrace the culture, and focus on their duties as ring bearers, the boys are easily distracted by swimming and playing soccer. However, once the festivities are in full swing and the boys witness the love and happiness between their two tíos, they quickly welcome their role in their uncles’ very special day.
This debut picture book written by Ross Mathews and Wellinthon García-Mathews, with illustrations by Tommy Doyle, reminds us about the importance of love, family, and embracing one’s cultural identity.
