Review: Lenny Lemmon and the Doomed Safari

Lenny Lemmon and the Doomed Safari by Ben Davis, James Lancett, yellow cover with a boy in panic and a hungry lion looking at himThe newest Lenny Lemmon and it is time for a trip to a safari park with lots of chaos!

What do you do when you brother screwed up and 1) he will not go to America for a few months (so you will have quiet) but 2) you can also not go to a safari to meet an animal your school is caring for? Well, you think of a plan. Even if that plan means collaborating with your brother. Yup. Lenny and his brother are going to have to work together to get everything back on track and I loved it. While these two clearly don’t always like each other you can see that they care. Even if it is hidden behind arguments and grumblings. Haha.

And so a plan is made. But not before dad brings in one of his inventions… which I was dreading already. Haha. Dad makes some awesome things but they don’t always work correctly. They tend to explode. Or do something chaotic. So I was wondering how much trouble the kids would be in while driving to the safari park. Well, not all is the car at least. Haha. But a big chunk is. You would think that going to a safari park is easy, but this trip made me laugh so much because a lot of things happen. I won’t tell you what exactly.

I can tell you that they do get to the safari park! Yup. And if you think oh now the chaos is over? Hahahhahahahhahahahah, nope. If anything things get even more chaotic. With lions, antilopes, big birds, loud music, and more!

The ending came a bit out of the left field. I thought it was over but then we get an extra illustration and I am just not sure if it was reality or a dream. If it was reality, whoop whoop. If it was a dream, poor Lenny.

The illustrations by James Lancett were once again A-Plus. I love his style and I love the facial expressions on the characters.

Also please, please, don’t give animals chocolate or cookies. I know this is a book about humour but I just cannot stop saying it because I know there is going to be a kid who reads this book and thinks it is good. Just like how I constantly speak up about having more than 1 hamster in a cage (or 1 hamster in a tiny cage).

All in all, I laughed myself silly while reading this one and I am so happy that this series is still going strong. I would highly recommend this book and the other books in the series. I cannot wait to see what is next for Lenny!
