Review: Wild Your World: Birds

Wild Your World Birds by Camilla de la Bédoyère, Philip Giordano featuring a wild life scenery with leaves and plants and a ton of birdsI received this book from Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.

When I saw this gorgeous book I knew I had to have it, especially when there was also a peek inside the book and I saw more of that gorgeous art. Plus, I love birds so I was curious if I would learn something new!

In this short book (perfect for kids) we learn all about birds. From the basics like flying, living, family life, and more to various incredible things that birds did to different birds in different habitats. You can read the book like I do and just go from page 1 to page 46 or go to your favourite/most interested topic. Each topic is 2 pages long and I love how with each topic we didn’t just get the in overall picture but also met various birds and how they do things. Like in the Birds on Show we learn about birds doing this for mates and then read about how the Raggiana birds-of-paradise have fluffy tail feathers and as they dance upside down this spreads out like a fan! That is so fun!

Did I learn something new? Oh yes. I learned that some small songbirds use spider silk to glue the nests together. I knew about mud or spit, but not that! Or that 2-thirds of bird species eat other animals. Oh, and I learned of a bird called Hooded pitohui who eats toxic beetles and that their poison transfers to the bird’s skin! And there were some other fun facts I didn’t yet know. I love it when a book can surprise me with new information~

As more and more with books about nature and animals we have a chapter dedicated to saving the birds and what birds are at risk and why. I understand why and know it is needed, but it is always such a depressing end to great books.

The illustrations were, as I already said, gorgeous. I love the style. It felt like something you would see in a museum, if that makes sense.

Sadly, with my review copy came some problems. Some text was hard to read, blurry, or it seemed that there were multiple texts written over one. I am sure that the published copy will have this fixed, at least I hope so, but I do have to mention this in my review as I am reviewing this copy and it was just a shame that the text wasn’t always readable.

But all in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. It was fun, the art was gorgeous, and there is so much to learn.
