Review: Just Friends
One summer, one that lingers on as the years go by. What happened at summer camp?
🥰 I loved how we went back and forth between the now in which Emi and Erika meet at summer camp and them meeting up years after.
🥰 The summer camp parts were the ones I liked the most. I loved seeing what the summer camp had in store (all sorts of fun events), plus I loved seeing romances bloom and people find friends. I would have loved to join that summer camp. The beach! Hikes! Yummy food! And more.
🥰 I also liked that Erika was Bi, or at least, if I am going by everything. Sorry if it is wrong.
🥰 I loved the art style of the graphic novel, it was a really fun style and it fitted so well both in the now and the then.
🥰 I also liked that we got to find out what happened to Erika and her best friend before camp and why they were so awkward around each other.
🥰 I loved both the romance with Luka (though Erika was pretty oblivious about things but she must have known it a bit) and later on her romance with Emi. My fav would be Emi and Erika because they were way less awkward, haha, and had wonderful chemistry together.
🥰 I also liked that while there were rules there were also openings to just visit other tents at night or do something fun. Sometimes summer camps are very strict but this one was a bit easier, as long as they behaved it was OK.
🥰 The cover is just so fun and sweet!
🥰 Erika wasn’t always my favourite because of how anti-social she was, but I could also understand her and why she was like this. It isn’t like she wanted to go to summer camp. She was fine just drawing and having a calm summer. But I am happy that despite everything she participated in many events and tried to make friends. Tried to have fun. I love that.
🥰 The summer vibes! I could just feel the summer radiating and it makes me wish for those days again.
🤔😡 But the last part (or well before the flashback) pissed me off. These two are in relationships, even if it is not that special to them, they are in a relationship. I can accept them talking and having a good time to relive memories, however I cannot accept or approve of what happened afterwards. Nope. That just ruined everything for me.
All in all, this was a decent graphic novel, but the ending just made me want to yeet the book in a fire.
