Review: Molly’s Tuxedo

Molly's Tuxedo by Vicki Johnson, Gillian Reid, girl wearing a tuxedo and smilingA really adorable book about picture day and picking the best outfit!

I found this book in Dutch at my library and of course I had to bring it with me! I was curious to see if this girl would be able to wear a tuxedo for her school photo!

Meet Molly, a girl who much rather wear something easy over a dress, so when picture day comes around she has big plans to wear something special. Something that not everyone would wear. She wants to wear a tuxedo. She found it in her brother’s closet and she has been eyeing it ever since. I was so loving the fact that Molly wanted to wear a tux. Not just wear a shirt and pants, no this girl is going fancy!

And seriously, even I a girl who doesn’t mind dresses and skirts, would HATE that dress that mom picked up. What an atrocity. I could so understand that Molly was NOT into wearing that one. I would also be like HECK NO. But mom is determined and I just wanted to shake the mom. I am glad that despite everything Molly is a strong girl with a strong will and I was rooting for her. Whispering to the book (yes, I am so sorry but I talk to my books at times) to tell Molly to go for it! I loved what she did nearer to the photo moment and I was cheering when the moment truly was there. Go Molly! And what a great group of friends she has~

I wasn’t entirely a fan of the mom. Plus, I found it weird what she said at the day itself after forcing her daughter to wear the outfit she hates the most. I mean, if that is truly your feeling, why not just let Molly wear what she wanted from the start???

The illustrations were oh so fun and I love the style. There are so many fun details to see.

All in all though, this was a positive, fun book, and I loved Molly!
