Review: Yuri Espoir, Vol.1
What if your dad arranged a marriage for you and you only got one year left? Well, then you draw yuri scenes!
I was browsing through my Comics Plus app and found this one and it sounded just the cutest! And in the end? It definitely was!
What a delightful fun book! A girl who is doomed to get married with someone she doesn’t want decides to spend her last year dreaming up yuri relationships in her notebook and her head, however, what if all those relationships she thought were fake and in her mind weren’t entirely dreamed up? Because next to Kokoro’s fantasies we also get the POV of the people she dreamed about and get a glimpse in their lives. We see if they are truly a couple, a soon-to-be couple, or something totally different. I loved that the mangaka added those scenes to the mix. It was definitely not what I expected when I started reading!
I loved seeing what Kokoro came up with and that we didn’t just see her sketches but also got to see her stories in her mind. She sure has a great mind that comes up with some amazing stories that you just want to be true.
Then there is the best friend of Kokoro who at first seems to be just her bestest friend and who is willing to help her out, but we learn that this girl has a big big obsession with her friend in the romantic sense. We get a glimpse at her room and well, it was definitely a little off-putting, but I hope that one day she can get that love for real with Kokoro.
In the mean time other things also happen including our best friend and a teacher working together (though the best friend is definitely putting in the most effort, haha), and much more. There was so much happening and I loved it!
The art was also just so pretty.
All in all, by the time this review pops up (writing this end of April) I hope that I read the other volume(s) as well! I would recommend this one to yuri lovers~
