Review: Detective Stanley and the Mystery at the Museum
Meet Detective Stanley, officially retired, but still not done with solving mysteries!
I had my sights on this book when it was first announced and I am so happy I finally got it in my hands. dances
In this really fun book (picture book/graphic novel) we meet a dog named Stanley. He is a retired detective and looking forward to just having a chill time. Eating pancakes. Relaxing. But then he gets a letter requesting his help, and well, we all know how detectives are then. They need to help! And that is what happens with Stanley. He decides to go to the museum and figure things out. Because something is amiss. The museum is a mess and there is something fishy (or painty) going on. I absolutely loved how there were so many little clues hidden in the illustrations it made for a real fun engaging experience. You have to pay attention to what is said, but also scroll back at times to see if you got all the hints.
Of course, this isn’t an easy case, and things seem to go south for a bit but then Stanley is back and I was just rooting for him to solve the case and get the culprit behind bars!
I am also delighted that there will be another book in the series! I was already hoping for that and then we got to the last page and in a really fun way we learn of the next book. Well, this girl needs it now!
I wasn’t such a fan of Shiro (he was such an ass) but also other animals I had expected better of. I mean, this is apparently a very famous detective who solved MANY cases but everyone treated him like a first timer which just stood out.
The illustrations were a lot of fun and I love the colours, the details, and how fun it was, though I constantly had to remind me that resting bitch/resting angry face was Stanley’s default. XD
All in all, I love this series and love how the story is told along with hints in the illustrations. I would highly recommend it to all and I think this will be a hit with kids (and adults like me, haha).
