Review: Magical Girl Incident, Vol.1

Review: Magical Girl Incident, Vol.1

Magical Girl Incident #1 by Zero Akabane, pink cover with a guy in suit sitting on a couch with on the left a girl with long pink hair and a dressMeet a guy who really wants to be a hero, like Power Rangers and such, but instead becomes a magical girl.

I have been eyeing this one for a while and then I spotted it up on Comics Plus! Of course I had to start reading it!

In this one we meet Hiromi Sakura, a guy who really wants to be a hero and is not having the best of lives with a dead-end job that tires him out. One day he saves a little girl and he transforms into a magical girl. And not just outwardly. He is a real girl. Much to my hilarity and much to his shock. I am sorry, but I had thought that he would just get an outfit and some powers, not totally transform into a magical girl! And yes, I saw the cover and had an idea that may be him, but some bit of me thought it was just another magical girl, haha.

And so begins his life as Mahou Shoujo. We see him try to figure things out, like how does he transform, how does he get back, why him, see him kick ass. He isn’t alone in that. His colleague and friend finds out about him when a battle appears and Hiromi changes. This guy is rich and doesn’t know what to do with his money so he is now funding Hiromi + help him figure out things and give him all the opportunities to help the world (which include making a weapon and also lending Hiromi his helicopter when the need arises). I really loved the addition of the friend and I loved that he is so dedicated to helping his friend.

There is quite a bit of humour next to the action and I love that. I wouldn’t mind more seriousness, but now it is just the perfect balance of seriousness (kicking ass, but also seeing his dead-end job and how the boss treats people) and humour (how Hiromi transforms, how he feels about becoming a Mahou Shoujo, silly scenes with the battles).

The Shibata pieces weren’t the easiest to read, poor guy.

Then there is the ending and we meet a new person, this time a Mahou Shounen and I have a suspicion on who it is. I cannot wait to find out!

And the bonus chapter made me giggle, I hadn’t expected the mysterious school girl (who is an enemy) to get that attention and then see her break fourth wall as well.

All in all, this one was just so much fun to read and I am glad I found another series to enjoy and read! I would recommend this one~
