Review: Wonder Pony

Wonder Pony by Marie Spenale, purple cover with a girl in her day to day clothes and her superhero clothesWhat if you could change into a superhero? What would you do? Here is WonderPony!

I spotted this one on my Comics Plus app and of course I couldn’t resist. Super heroes x boarding school = LOVE!

😍 LOVE LOVE the boarding school setting! I am a big fan of that setting and also squeal in happiness when I see it pop up. I loved seeing the school, the dorms, see how three girls fit in one room (creative Tetrissing with beds), see the lessons, and more. I wish I could step in at times and be part of it all.
😍 I am definitely curious who put the box up there in the ceiling, given that JP works with the school I am sure it is one of the school peeps, hopefully one day we find out more. I loved how the girls each found something that they liked, though it was Louison who picked the pony figure and thus became Wonder Pony.
😍 I am also curious what is up with all the monsters, they seem to appear because of people’s fears and feeds off them, but they must come from somewhere and I liked getting a bit more information as the story continued though I still have some questions. I did love the designs of the monsters, they were definitely scary and I loved how, despite this being mostly just cute and fun the monsters weren’t there to be cute or fun. If Wonder Pony didn’t step up people could get hurt, the stakes were high.
😍 I love that Louison wasn’t immediately kicking monster asses. She was first hesitant on what to do, a bit clueless, a bit silly, but as time went on we saw her grow. I can appreciate that as it makes it easier to root for Wonder Pony. I am curious how much more she can do if she fully figures out her powers and is able to be a bit more resilient/stronger.
😍 I loved the art, it is such a fun style!
😍 I loved the illustrations between the chapters along with the character sheets for not just our MC and her roommates but also other characters we meet along the way. I like the information that was mentioned on there and the insight it gave in the characters.
😍 It was fun seeing Louison bond with Jean-Pierre.
😍 Jean-Pierre was such a fun little guy but I also loved that he can do his bit.

πŸ€” I am not sure how I felt about the drama that we got. Wonder Pony becomes more popular and it gets to Louison’s head, which is a trope we see more often in these kind of stories, but I could definitely do without. It got to the point that Louison was just distracted and did some dumb things that hurt people around her.
πŸ€” Sam/Samira, the girl who is quite goth-y, was just too hard for me to like. As the story went on I just wanted her to communicate more clearly instead of going full deredere on everyone. At times I just wanted to shake her so much. Girl. No one thinks you are cool if you act like that.

But all in all, I would love more volumes of this series and see how Louison becomes much better at kicking monster butt! I would recommend this one to all who love superheroes x boarding school setting~
