Review: Youth Group

Youth Group by Jordan Morris, Bowen McCurdy, Two characters holding flames and a crossReligion x demon butt kicking x feelings x lots of fun = YASSS!

One of the graphic novels of last year that I was desperate to get and wasn’t able to get but in May I was finally able to get it! And boy I had so much fun, this was a thousand times more fun than I had thought.

😍 Kay who was at first quite the grump (though I could understand why) but then I started to like her more and more. I loved seeing her change and being more accepting of the Youth Group. I also loved seeing her discover her powers when it turned out she is a Blight (or Miracle as Meg calls it). She really gets kick-ass. Plus, I didn’t even mind that she had that grumpy attitude, because I just like the grumpy (Kay)/Sunshine (Meg) trope. I felt for her that her first possession to fix was her crush, but I guess that helped her get over her feelings, haha. That, and the underwear she found, eww. It was quite fun to see Kay grow as the story continues. In the end I just loved her character.
😍 Meg was just such a fun character. I love how she is always (or well most of the time) sunny and sparkly. She always has a plan. Loves to sing. She was adorable. I can imagine that if I met someone like that in real life I would only be able to stay with that person for small doses, but in book form it was actually very fun. I loved how Meg just kicked some serious ass and wasn’t afraid to step up and help out.
😍 The demons/the battles with the demons. BOY, those were so cool. I also loved that we got to see the POV of the demons and see what they were planning. Including possessing Kay’s dad (which wasn’t an entirely bad thing, haha).
😍 Loved learning more about the various groups. From wiccans to the Meg’s group to satanists (yes, even them). See how they kicked ass. Those nuns especially sounded just so awesome.
😍 The art was just the coolest, I love the style!
😍 Cortland, I liked him from the start and I loved how he was both laid-back and chill but at the same time could kick some serious butt. I loved how silly he was at times. I also loved how he talked to that demon when he was possessed. That is a pretty cool skill.
😍 Cortland x Briar = YAS. I was so excited when that party happened and then that scene on the balcony. Now if only Meg hadn’t come in.
😍 Doug was an interesting character (though his song about pina colada and teens was just 😒😒), I love that he was so kick-ass with monsters, not such a fan of how stuck he was in his believes and wouldn’t listen. But I loved how he was there for the teens and tried to help out as much as he could.
😍 The cover now that you know who is who makes it so much fun!
😍 I was kinda shipping Meg with Kay? I mean, friendship is good too, but they just had a vibe and I was definitely hoping for more.

🤔 I am just not entirely sure about the last part. We go from a big battle to some time later and then lastly demon kicking. I was wondering if I had missed pages.

All in all, I wouldn’t mind a sequel to this one and see more demon ass-kicking.
