Review: 10 Dogs
I received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
A big thank you to the publisher for approving my request on Edelweiss! I just love Emily Gravett’s work and I love dogs so this was a book I desperately needed and wanted!
First up love the end papers, it is filled with sausages! And while I just ate my stomach rumbled at the sight of those sausages! And then at the end it is matching to what has happened in the book and I love that!
Next up, we have 10 dogs, 10 sausages, 1 table with an assortment of items. Sounds like fair sharing right? Each dog gets one. Or well, that would be if the book was over in 2 pages. But this one is a bit longer so of course there is going to be chaos. So much chaos. The table is flying. The items are everywhere. The dogs are all going for it. I was just laughing so hard at each page and seeing how the chaos continued. See the table go from flipped over to standing again. See the dogs play with the sausages. I was looking forward to each page and I was curious if all the dogs would get one sausage. Well, I won’t spoil anything, but I loved how it all came together and the ending made me smile so much.
This is also a counting book, but not just your ordinary one. Oh no. We are counting double! Not just the sausages but also the dogs and what they are up to get counted. So for instance on one page you will have 3 dogs with more sausages and on the other side 7 dogs with less. Not just are we always counting to 10, but we are also counting up and down. So it is double the fun and double the learning.
And the dogs were just so cute, I love that there were 10 different dogs. Not just 1 kind, oh no we get Yorkshires, shepherds, dalmatians, and others. I loved seeing them get up to their antics. Emily really captured the dogs.
The art other than the dogs was also fun. There are so many details to the table and all the items and seeing them be used. For instance on page we see the tinier dogs use the table as a fort. In another we see a tiny dog stuck with the watering can on its head. I loved it!
All in all, a wonderful book that will teach kids counting but also brings them a ton of laughter and joy. I would recommend it to all!
