Review: British Museum: My Little Museum: Ancient Greece + Ancient Egypt
Two delightfully fun books in which you can make your own museum + learn all about those time periods!
I encountered these book through the publisher’s BlueSky and was instantly curious. I just love history books, especially when written for children, and these had something extra. They are foldable and you make your own museum.
Yes, you hear that one right. You can make your own museum. These two books are split up in two sections that you can fold out. On the one side of the book is a big big museum in gorgeous illustrations with spaces split in sections all over it. In the middle of the book (where all the pages come together as an accordion if that makes sense, haha) there is a part holding several sheets of stickers. It is your mission to get that museum ship shape and looking ready for the guests already there. You get several stickers featuring objects, statues, and more for each section. Sometimes it is the right amount, sometimes you have a bit more. It was a lot of fun thinking of where to put all the stickers. Sometimes not everything fit, and at one point I just gave up on trying to get it accurate, haha. Does it fit there? Yes. Done. Despite that little hurdle, I had tons of fun and I just didn’t want it to end. I wanted to make more museums! What I also love that there is also a list that lists what the stickers are so that you can research them further should you want to (or if you want to see them bigger).
Then on the other side is 4 sections about that specific time period. For instance with Egypt we get Pyramids and the Nile and with Greece we get how people live and the market place to name two of the 4 sections. I really enjoyed those non-fiction bits, especially since it was all fully illustrated. We are really diving into Egypt and Greece. I loved the various parts that were picked, of course I would love to see more, but it is a fun start for kids that will sure make them curious for more!
The illustrations are just the cutest! I love the style so much~
All in all, I am definitely hoping for many many more books like this! I would love a book about the Romans, or the Vikings! I would HIGHLY recommend these two books to all my readers.
