Review: Cute Animals That Could Kill You Dead
A hilarious book about animals that look cute but could KILL you DEAD.
I came across this book over on BlueSky back in June and was instantly interested. I love books about nature/animals and I love it even more when there is a dose of humor. So I immediately went to Amazon and it was on sale! So of course, instant buy!
In this book we meet 17 animals. From bats to a black-footed cat to sea otters to sea bunnies. Each animal gets two pages. The first is all about how cute it is and how adorable and gives it a rating on adorable and ahhhhhsome. We get some basic information on where it lives and all that. Plus, a very cute sparkly illustration. Just look at that cutie! But then you flip the page and go to the second page of that animal and BOOM, scary moments. Animals that look at you like they could eat you dead. New illustrations only now scary and deadly. And along with that information on why they aren’t as cute as you may think. Like how pygmy owls will eat ANYTHING. Or how fennec foxes will dig dig dig deep to get to their prey. Or the sea bunny which looks so cute is actually a toxic carnivore. I had so much fun seeing first the cute adorable side and then the NOPE deadly side, I love that you have to flip to see that other side. That makes it so much fun. I also learned some new things and that always makes me happy. I have been reading animal books for a long long time now and so I love it when they can surprise me with new information.
The illustrations were just fantastic. The cute side was just adorable and you seriously wanted to pet and hug these animals. And the scary side was definitely scary. Some of those illustrations are nightmare fuel, haha. Like the frogs who reminded me of Billy Cypher. Or the ladybird who was pouncing on a snack. NOPE.
I also loved the puns that were on the scary pages. They brought a bit of light-heartedness to the scary side and I appreciate that.
I loved that at the end we get real life photographs of all the animals! That was such a fun addition.
All in all, if you are in need of a laugh, want to learn something, and like a book about nature that tells things differently from most books, be sure to check out this book, I would recommend it highly and I hope that the author brings out more books like this!
