Review: Destiny Ink: Talent Show Magic
Meet Destiny Ink, a girl with an awesome name and some big plans!
I came across this one at Library #1 and was curious about it. Also a bit on the fence because it said there would be magic and I am not sure how I feel about magic in a book that sounded to be taking place here and now and with no other fantasy/magic elements. I can spoil a bit already, it didn’t work for me, at all.
π₯° Love the talent show along with the festival and get to see some of the acts as Destiny waits for her turn. Plus, the surprise at the end? That was just perfection!
π₯° Love the family and how close they are and how supportive they are of each other.
π₯° I loved the bond that Destiny had with her grandma, they were so sweet together.
π₯° Love the art! The style was just so much fun.
π₯° Love the names! Destiny isn’t a name I have heard often (if at all, haha) and that her last name is Ink? That is just such a fun one.
π₯° Love the how to draw part at the end. I always love it when books add a bit extra to the book and now kids can learn to draw Destiny themselves and maybe think of some more adventures for her~
π I would seriously recommend Destiny get a bigger cage. We get a glimpse in one of the illustrations and that is not a good place for a Syrian hamster to live. I would recommend getting at least triple or even more. They need a lot of moving space, a lot of places to hide, a lot of places to do their thing.
π Hamsters generally aren’t awake during the day, mine wake up at times when they hear me pass by their room, but mostly they are just conkered out.
π The magic part in the middle? Not really a fan, I would have rather seen her get over her fear in a natural way instead of through magic. And as I said before the magic just felt out of place, weirdly put in, and I think it would have been better if it had been just her imagination. Plus then there was that convenient thing happening RIGHT before the show and I was like, why did you even bother with this?
So yeah, I won’t be reading the other books as the magic part is just not working for me, but I am still happy I tried out this one. There were some fun moments!
