Review: The Demons Are Planning Something Good!, Vol. 1
I received this book from Yen Press in exchange of an honest review.
I am a giant fan of GashiGashi’s art, I follow them on Pixiv/social media, and so when I spotted this book? Of course I had to request it! I am delighted that I get the chance to read it! Thank you to Yen Press!
In this one we follow the demons/demon army as they think of ways to be more inventive with traps. Yep. You heard that right. You probably thought that traps can just be simple. Oh no. The demons, or for most the Demon Lord thrives on chaos and humiliation and such and so a simple trap (like one that just trips or traps you) is so boring. That brings nothing to the dinner table. So in this delightful volume we meet the demons as they make various traps. From trying to melt clothes with potions to finding a much easier solution (this one made me laugh so hard, poor adventures) to tentacles to doppelgangers to an armour that makes you an exhibitionist to much more. I was just laughing at all the things the demons cooked up and either made real or just tested.
The assistant to the one making the traps and the one we see the most of is a demon named Letze. She is a succubus but wasn’t too good at that. I cannot say I am surprised given how she acts. She has no interest in that kind of stuff, she cannot make the right expressions that are required, she is just Letze. I loved that she found her place with Lord Mercysnare (yes, that is really his name) and helps him with the traps that he makes. She assists him with his experiments either as the one to be experimented on or when there are adventures to experiment (or torture) with. I really like her character!
I loved the chapter with the demon who is good at camouflage and decided to turn themselves in a girl to take down a hero. Though, cough, I wonder if the demon is truly going to take down the hero as the demon seems to have interest in the guy for a whole other reason in the end. XD
I loved that we get to meet all sorts of demons from lower to higher demons. Their designs are so much fun + I love their names. Oh, and I love that we also get to follow the adventurers at times and see how they are faring/how they are falling for the traps.
The two bonus stories were also a delight to read!
All in all, a laugh-out-loud manga that brings a new side to dungeons and traps. I would highly recommend it!
