Review: Visit Olympic National Park!

Visit Olympic National Park! by Sloane Gould, cover featuring a waterfall cascading from various levels in a forestI received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I just LOVE books about National Parks in the US. I won’t ever visit the US (unless a lot of things change) so these books are the way for me to discover those gorgeous places. Olympic National Park is one I haven’t heard a lot of, the name comes across as familiar, so I am excited to explore this place!

The book is split into 9 different parts, 7 are about the history and nature, 1 is about getting active in the area, and the last is all about protecting the pacific northwest. My favourites were definitely the first 7 sections. I loved learning about this park, the natives that used to live in the area, how it became a national park, the Roosevelt Elk, various nature and geography bits and bobs. (Did you know there is a beach called Ruby Beach? Or it has some amazing sea stacks (and there is even a stretch of it that is called Point of Arches)? Or that there is both a rainforest and glaciers on the mountains? That there is a vast variety of animals including cute marmots and beavers?) It was super interesting to read and I love how the bits were all short and to the point but packed with information. Plus, I love that they added metric as well! I learned a lot about this park and I am so happy I was able to visit it through this book.

Like a lot of books for children that are non-fiction this one has a glossary. Throughout the book we see words that are in bold. I always appreciate it when a glossary is added, I don’t need it, but young kids who are reading this book may need it.

I loved the mix of illustrations with gorgeous photographs.

All in all, I had fun visiting this national park through and I spotted at the end that there are more books like this, I hope that I can find them as I would love to read them! I would recommend this book to all!
