Review: A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience
A delightful novella about a girl rather reading books but getting married to a vampire. This was fun and cute!
I am so excited that I was finally able to get this one in August and read it on my final day of my vacation! Beauty x the Beast just now with a guy turned into a vampire because a curse instead of a guy turned to beast.
In this one we meet Margaret Dunhaven. She is having a pretty OK life with university courses, tons of books (so many books), many cups of tea. But then her family forces her to get married and she has no choice in the matter. She is just kidnapped. Her new hubby? Lord Riven, a guy turned vampire and destined to protect a precious relic. I absolutely loved the premise and I can tell you that the whole novella was just so much fun, it is quite short with around 70 pages, but it feels like a complete story (a feat that not many novella writers or short story writers can do).
I was already sold when the first thing our MC does when she gets to her new home with her new hubby is finding tea. Lots of tea. And almost whacking someone over the head with a kettle if she isn’t getting her time to make a cup. Or ten. I loved how headstrong she is and that she isn’t going to take anything in this situation. Plus, she loves books, so so much, and researching. My kind of girl!
I loved finding out why she was forced to marry Lord Riven, plus what Lord Riven thinks of it all. Because it is more than just her being at a certain age. We learn of a relic that can grant wishes and has been used for some things that may not always be good (werewolves aren’t the worst, but zombies??). We learn that our dear Lord had to choose between losing his home or marrying. As the story continues further and more and more puzzle pieces are revealed until we learn the whole truth. It was just so good! Each time you think oh that is it, then something else comes along. Perfect! Plus, I love seeing Margaret and Lord Riven come together to figure things out and in the progress learn things about each other.
Because yes, at first it is very much enemies with Margaret doing things from eating the Lord’s favourite foods that he cannot eat to doing other things, and then slowly we see them finding interests in the other, physical attraction pops by as well, and I found myself just rooting like mad for these two. Shipping them. Hoping that they would find love in this crazy situation. They definitely had chemistry and that delighted me.
The last part with them confronting the big baddie? Perfection! Though OK, Margaret, you need to let go off your pride at times, haha.
Plus, her finding a new research after all that? It made me laugh and I loved it. That is sure going to be some hot and spicy research times.
I am also delighted that when I went to the GR page for this book I found out that there is going to be a second book in the series! I hope it is all about them travelling Europe together. Maybe Margaret saying yes to a certain suggestion/question that our Lord proposed in this book.
I would highly recommend this fun novella to all! Enemies to lovers, secrets, chemistry, historical setting with vampires/zombies/werewolves/magic.
