Review: Catalog of Wonders, Vol. 2: Perfect Prize Postcards, Road Seeds, and Other Stories

Catalog of Wonders, Vol. 2 by Chizutokouro, Kei Mochizuki, girl holding a book and looking mysteriousAnother fun and fabulous book in the series! I love how the prologue and the last chapter come together.

Perfect Prize Postcards, what if you could always win the perfect prize? This I would give Star rating, 4.5 stars. It was a lot of fun and I love the sending postcards to competitions thing, which I have seen in other anime/manga as well over the year, it sounds like such an interesting concept, I want in! Well, maybe not with the supernatural stuff, haha. The prizes were fun, though I was getting worried as things continued. That ending! WOW!

Road Seeds, a boy being bullied gets a chance to escape, Star rating, 4 stars. Mostly lost stars/rating because of him taking A LOT of revenge on the bullies. I wouldn’t have minded a bit, but now he was just like them. The ending was OMG and very sad. While it was a bit his own fault, no one wants this to happen to anyone.

Synonym bugs, imagine being able to read all the words in the world easily, Star rating, 4 stars! I really liked this one and for most of it was a fun one. Bugs, books, secrets stores. Didn’t like that the boy stole things. Karma came for him though.

Memory Absorb Papers, what if you could gain a memory of everyone? Star rating, 4.5 stars. Told a bit akin to infomercials and turned into a story told to a friend, very fun/interesting, but also sad. I do like the idea of eating paper (though not that last one) to gain a bit of intelligence of those around and it expanding range the bigger your paper is.

Unhappy Ending Labels: what if you could get unhappy endings in your books/life? Star rating, 4 stars. Mostly loved this one and the idea of being able to stick stickers to things, but I didn’t like how the MC turned horrible. That ending though, wow. That was surely not one I had expected, but it fitted perfectly.

And lastly the prologue + last chapter, do you really want to eat those fortune balls? Star rating, 4.5 stars I loved this one, especially since it, for once, had a happy ending (even though I had expected not given all that happens each time she ate a ball). Plus, I love the search for treasure (I was rooting for our MC to be the one to find it) + how it brought two people together when things got very dicey.

And then there is the last part in which Nieno and Nozome tell us their feelings on the samples. Fun!

All in all, this was a super fun volume in the series and I hope that many more volumes will come out! I would recommend this series!

Star rating, 4 stars
