Review: Li’l Miss Vampire Can’t Suck Right, Vol. 1
A really fun manga about a girl acting like she is all fantastic, but actually she is a vampire who cannot suck blood right!
I came across this one on Comics Plus and I was curious. The blurb sounded fun, the cover looked fun, but would Luna be annoying or just cute?
Well, I can tell you that this was all very wholesome and fun! Luna is just a wonderful character who comes across as cool and mature, everyone is very impressed by her and she is quite popular. Plus, she is a vampire. Yup. I thought at first that maybe this was a secret, or that people thought she was just faking it, but no everyone knows. Which raises some questions which I hope we get answered in the next volume. However, despite Luna’s cool attitude and /care moments, she actually has a problem. Or well two. One, she cannot suck blood for life which leads her to be hungry all the time, and two whenever she sucks she turns itty bitty tiny when she does try. Luna was just such a fun character (both her cute side and her I am a mighty vampire side) and I love how hard she tried to get better. Even researching for herself and figuring things out. Plus, I love that she throws some stereotypes to the ground. Her favourite food? Garlic. She can eat food, in fact she snacks so much I think that the stores around the school are doing super. However the snacks don’t fill her. She just stays hungry until she has had blood. But she likes the taste of food. Like a lot of recent vampire stories she uses sunscreen to get by the sun, though of course she much prefers something darker/shaded.
Insert Ootori, a guy from her class who defines himself as the background character and thus doesn’t feel like he should be in the spotlights so much given his blossoming friendship with Luna (and later a bit more, at least I am shipping them). He decides to help out Luna with her drinking/biting problem and offers his arm. Which leads to amnesia and also some motherly feelings. Motherly feelings, Mehsi? Yes, because Luna turns chibi she becomes like a little baby just clinging to her mom for food. And he won’t be the first to experience those feelings, haha. I really liked Ootori and I loved that he wasn’t the main main character. He is just a background character now thrown into the spotlight and still tries to get out of it. He just wants a quiet life, art club, snacks, and helping Luna.
Along the way these two enlist the help of another girl and then the whole class is into the secret. Which I love. A lot of stories like this just hide things, keep the secret secret, but in this one they just involve everyone and I loved seeing the class reaction to it all. In fact, they see it as a bonus. They get to have cool Luna and cute Luna.
The art is really fun. I love that the mangaka is showing all the sides of Luna perfectly. And I love the facial expressions on the other characters + their designs.
All in all, I cannot wait to see what is next for Luna, Ootori, Sakuma, and the class. Will they be able to get Luna to be a perfect/dark vampire? I would recommend this one to everyone looking for a fun manga!
