Review: Monster and Ghost, Vol.1

Monster and Ghost Volume 1 by Himemiko, guy with dark hair and intense look holding a pale hand and kissing itI received this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I absolutely loved the cover and the blurb also sounded interesting. Sadly, this just never really drew me in and while I am happy I got the chance to read it, I am not going to read on.

In this one we meet a guy named Koton Tsubaki. A giant of a guy with tons of muscles and a dark past. However as we quickly learn he is just misunderstood. Various events can be led to him just trying to save someone. Even a giant event in his youth can be traced back to that. But because he is big, has long dark hair, muscles everywhere, awkward, and prone to helping out by using violence, everybody avoids him. And you know, when the only thing that makes him try to chance is a dang ghost he got the hots for, meh. Maybe I am also just done with the is-he-or-isn’t-he-delinquent-trope along with the he-looks-like-yakuza-so-he-must-be-bad-trope. Seen it too many times.

I am not a sure how I felt about the ghost being the total absolute 100% opposite of the MC. Like if you take the MC and flipped everything around? You would get him. Including the alive to dead part. Sure, eventually I could see the attraction between the two and the chemistry, but for most I just didn’t always like Kabuto (also btw, sorry, but I kept thinking to the Pokemon, sorry Kabuto).

I also found it pretty hilarious that the girls were either afraid of him or wanted to bone him. Like seriously? All he did was put his hair backwards, add a dab of hair stuff, and carried himself better. He was always hot. You just didn’t care to see it because he looked mobster.

Then there is that side character who apparently is good given the last part and how he just yeeted himself to the scene of the event, but he is so sus. Like you would throw him off the ship when you play Among Us. That kind of sus.

But while I am big fan girl of shark teeth (and fangs, and such), I just didn’t think his sharky teeth fitted the story here. At times we had such a sweet beautiful moment and I was just distracted by his teeth. I think teeth like these just fit better in other kind of stories, like action, humor, or things with idols. Not a sad story about a misunderstood guy and a ghost.

The art was nice though, well OK except all the weird veins at times. But our MC was HOT. Dang. Especially when he did his hair the way he did on the cover. swoons

All in all, I am just not sure what to think of this one. On the one hand, OK, on the other hand a struggle. Not sure if I will read the next one.
