Review: The Cloud Enchanters: Fantasy Stories
I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
I really enjoy N.S. Ford’s short story collections so of course I had to say YES when I got the mail if I wanted to review her latest. Which is releasing today, so congratulations to N.S. on her book releasing today! Hooray!
Be sure to read the fun introduction to the book before you start! I am not always an introduction girlie (people like to put in spoilers), but I knew that wouldn’t happen here. And it was a fun introduction in the book + more~
The Authoress’s Apprentice:
: This was a fun starter story! About a girl apprentices at an authoress (sorceress + writer), but not having the greatest time because her boss is taking all the credit for her work and has her do nothing else. Melvena was a character you just want to root for and I had such a giggle when she tried that out and how she tried to solve it, hey in a way it was helpful, I guess. I got very much Cinderella vibes from this one and I love it. I am so hoping that she and prince get to dating, that would be adorable. Plus, I would love to read her works!
One More Quest:
: A retired warrior princess (so cool) has to convince other questers (generally older bunch) to retire. I had so much fun with this story and I loved meeting the various questers and get a great description of them. It was as if I was there in that room listening to the princess telling us to stop questing and do something else. The title is all about that one quest, one final hooray before retiring, though haha, I had a suspicion on what would really happy. I love what the princess choose in the end + that she was given that choice!
Gingerbread:
: Oh my goodness! This was a delight! Hansel and Gretel, but with a twist! I loved reading about the way the house was build, and I can tell you I wanted to step in the book and just nom away. It sounded so good, I was drooling. I loved seeing the witch set the trap, but the twist near the end? Perfection! I had not expected that. Curious what the witch will do next!
A Dozen Dragons:
: Not a bad story, but I don’t know I wasn’t fully invested in it. I did love the dragons, they were just the cutest little things ever. I wouldn’t mind having a couple myself, well, at least, to babysit, haha. I loved what happens near the end, I won’t spoil it, but I hadn’t expected that to be the end! But the MC was just a bit bland for me, though I did warm up to him more as the story continued.
Café in the Sky:
: This was such a cozy and adorable story! About a café in the sky (with its own time which means that you really need to be careful or you will you get late), a person owning it who was such an interesting character and I loved how he named colours/how people looked (if that makes sense). I loved how he took care of the angel and how they became friends. And I just wanted to visit the little café throughout the whole book. It was just so cute and fluffy. Oh, and the ending? Loved it!
The Prophecy:
: Quite a fun story about a guy who reads his own prophecies and has to run run run away from all sorts of dangers! I definitely didn’t see the two surprises coming and I was just delighted with them. Though, with the last one, also worried. I wouldn’t mind working at such an archive by the way, I would love it!
The Cloud Enchanters:
: The titular story! And it is about weather manipulating and magic. There are people in the world who can influence the weather, enchant it. If you want a sunny day? They can arrange it. A bad storm? They can get rid of it. It was such a fun story and I loved every moment. Though what happens to the Cloud Enchanters made me sad, though it was also kind of tragically beautiful. The MC in the story was a fun one and I loved what they did.
All in all, I had a ton of fun with this one and I would recommend it to everyone looking for a fun (cozy) fantasy read. Great variety in stories, fabulous descriptions, and magical places.
