Review: At the Ragtag Hotel: The Elevator Ride
I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review!
Welcome to the Ragtag Hotel! A hotel full of different animals from ostriches to dingos to tarsiers and more! Today everyone wants to go to the fabulous 14th floor!
It is a sweltering day (not helped by the fact that apparently the AC is dead) and we see various animals pop in the elevator with Dallas (elevator guy and all round guy for the hotel). Each one is having a problem with the heat, even those from warmer climates want to cool off! There is a whole fun variation of animals and I looked forward to each new page to see what animal would be next! And of course, will they all fit? Because seriously, the elevator is NOT that big and while there are some smaller animals there are also some bigger ones and I was just giggling at seeing them tetris each animal in the elevator… meanwhile not trying to melt, haha. Plus, I was so curious what was on that top floor, what is it that everyone wanted to go to? Well, I can say, I understand the choose and wanted to be part of it as well.
I loved that we got to learn some new greetings in various languages. From Filipino to Spanish. It was a fun addition.
The art was really fun, though I wondered why the Ostrich and Tarsier were the ones cloth-less. I mean, the Ostrich I could understand, so much feathers, but the Tarsier? Hello? Oh, I especially loved the expressions of the animals as the elevator got more and more full. It just made me burst in laughing as more and more were added.
The only thing that I would have liked to see was that we actually saw the elevator buttons glow to their respective floors. For me it felt like they were just constantly on the ground floor/reception part. Each time they wanted to go someone would press the button was my idea. But I am guessing that they did move up floors, so it would have been nice to actually see that.
All in all, I had oodles and oodles of fun with this one. It was cute, it made me laugh, I wondered how many animals COULD fit, and I loved the ending. I would recommend it! And I want more!
