Review: High-Class Homos: Volume 1
I received this book from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So I read part of the WebToon many years ago, but stopped reading as I had too many WebToons already. I was hoping to one day pick it up again, so when I spotted this one on Netgalley I saw my chance! I was eager to read more of it, around 50-60% was not new to me, but the rest was and I enjoyed the whole thing.
In this one we meet two characters (and later some others), say hello to princess Sapphia and prince August. These two are the best of friends and also the same in another way. They are both LGBT+. He likes boys (especially one of the knights) and she likes girls (and has been flirting with a lot of the maids). They have to get married and what better plan then to get married together. They can make their parents happy and on top of that pursue their own happiness. I really loved the prince and the princess. OK, Sapphia really needs to learn more about real life, thankfully Odette (one of the maids) is there with her no-nonsense attitude and is more than happy to tell the princess what is up. But both the prince and princess are fun characters and I love their bond, they are really the best of friends and I love how they come to each other to talk about the woes and happy bits of their respective romances.
The romances are a lot of fun. We have Sapphia who loves the maids and is currently dating Marla (who is such a fun character though also a bit of a threat, haha), though through Odette’s POV (who is one of the cooks of the castle and totally done with the royals and also radishes) we learn that Odette is definitely in love with Sapphia (after some moments of confusion), so that is a fun one. I am curious if we will eventually just get a poly or if Marla and Sapphia will break up or maybe something else entirely. I am just hoping to see more of these three. And then there is prince August who loves one of the knights named Percival. At the start of the book it is totally obvious that the prince likes Percival, however Percival is a bit thick and it isn’t until a bit later that he FINALLY figures things out (though he needs a nudge). I am definitely shipping these two together as they are just the cutest. August is teaching Percival to read and it is so sweet.
I really loved seeing Marla, Odette, Percival, Lucas together and their friendships, but I also love seeing these 4 and our royals do something fun together.
The art was a bit all over the place, it seemed at times that there were multiple styles and it was switching between them which made things quite confusing. Still I did like the art in general, the styles presented are quite fun, though of course I love the one we see on the cover the most.
All in all, I hope that we soon get Volume 2 because I definitely want more of these fab characters and their romances!
