Review: Emma, Polar Bear

Review: Emma, Polar Bear

Emma Polar Bear by Daniel J. Blough + Stella Maris, girl lying on the ground drawing in a book with her dreams streaming out of her headI received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

I just couldn’t resist saying yes when I got the mail for this book and saw the cover, it looked so fun! Plus, I love polar bears. So two in one!

In this one we meet a little polar bear cub (who I knew was actually a little girl (and not just because the cover)) who goes on a big BIG quest to find the yummy food that she smells. Breakfast today is sure to be a FEAST (and I wanted part of it as pancakes are absolutely one of my favourite foods). We see our little bear cub tumble and run and climb over the icy plains of the North Pole. See them have a blast, but also see them conquer their fears as they move on. Because the way to breakfast? It isn’t the easiest. There are obstacles everywhere! Ice is slippery. There are more animals than just our little Emma cub. It was so fun to see Emma hype herself up or find the strength to just ROOOOOAARRRR. I love how the art transitioned from full polar bear to slowly a girl. It was the cutest and so much fun. Imagine having that much imagination, imagine that breakfast is just not a boring trip down the stairs, but instead a frozen wasteland of adventures. I know which one I would pick. Adventure ahoy!

I also loved the other hints, the shirt the brother wears for instance.

The art was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the soft way how everything was drawn, the transformation from polar cub to bear, the colours, I definitely had a couple of pages I wouldn’t mind having framed.

Oh, and I love how the text at times does fun things. Bigger type, fun fonts, upside down and all the way around.

All in all, if you want a delightful book that will make you look at going to your breakfast in a different (and more fun) way, be sure to read this one. Cute and adventurous!
