Review: Ruffles and the Cold, Cold Snow
A new Ruffles book for me and this time snow, kittens, and more!
It feels a bit weird to read a wintery books before it is even winter, haha. Currently reading this on September the 1st, and the weather is pretty gorgeous and still given summer vibes. But when I saw this book at the library I just HAD to bring it with me. I really liked Ruffles and the Red Red Coat and Ruffles and the Teeny Tiny Kittens.
First up, I have to say I just LOVE the blurb to this book. How Ruffles doesn’t like the snow with various images of him trying to traverse it.
In this one we meet up with Ruffles again, learn all about what he loves to do (singing, sniffing, sleeping for instance) and how he loves his teeny tiny kittens. But what happens when the kittens want to play outside in the cold cold snow? Ruffles of course cannot say no to his dear fluffy friends and goes outside, but he quickly discovers that he DOESN’T like the snow. It is cold. You cannot walk on it. It is too sinky. He just wants to get inside. Ruffles is the total opposite of my dog. My dog LOVES it when it snows. Though we don’t get as much as Ruffles does, so maybe my dog is also kinda like NOPE. But so far, each time we have a bit of snow she wants to go outside, and I have fun with playing with snowballs that she tries to eat and doesn’t understand where they go when she bites them, haha. So cute! But back to the book. Ruffles doesn’t like the snow, but the kittens definitely do. They love this weird stuff and immediately climb and play. I was curious what was going to happen next, well, OK, thanks to the blurb of course I got a taste of it, but I thought maybe Ruffles would play at least a bit? But no, we immediately head into rescue when the kittens get stuck (so cute, I am so sorry, but it was just so cute to see those little babies plop in the snow and not know how to get out). I was so proud of Ruffles and was rooting him on, telling him he could do it!
The ending was adorable, I hope that Ruffles is able to get the kittens to stay inside next time, or maybe do go outside but play something safer? I wouldn’t mind another book with Ruffles and the kittens and snow!
The art is really fun! I love how we get some big illustrations, but also some shorter ones with many Ruffles trying out things.
All in all, this is another adorable Ruffles book that I really enjoyed, and I am so happy I found it at the library. A bit early, but maybe I will do a re-read later this year, maybe around the time the review goes up? We will see! I would recommend this one!
