Review: The Boy Who Grew Dragons: A Christmas Delivery

The Boy Who Grew Dragons A Christmas Delivery by Andy Shepherd + Sarah Warburton, two kids and a grandfather in a wheelbarrow of ice with lots of presents on it and dragons around itWelcome back to the universe of The Boy Who Grew Dragons! Say hello to a Christmas book full of dragons and magic!

Even though I gave up on the series with book 3 (it just didn’t pull me in anymore after that, though I did try) I was so excited when I came across this book at the library. It was in Dutch, but I don’t mind that too much, I wanted it too badly, haha.

In this book we meet all our favourite characters again, Tomas and Loli and their dragons, granddad who is always eager to come along with an adventure. But there are also a TON more dragons than the last time I read the books. It was just magnificent to see all the different dragons and I loved how well they were doing and how perfect the tree/plant was doing that created those dragons. The world will be full with dragons very soon!

Back to the story. It is Christmas and our two kids and grandpa have some fabulous plans for Christmas eve. They want to bring some Christmas cheer and happiness to friends and family. It is a tradition that they deliver presents to people. Super cute! Super fun! But what if a new dragon hatches. And that dragon brings snow snow and more snow. I mean, at first snow is fun (think snowballs fights, snowman making), but then it just gets too much. It made me laugh though because here we have another dragon and yet some more trouble. But cute trouble! I loved seeing our trio work together with the dragons to think of a fabulous plan to still be able to bring Christmas cheer. I was cheering for our group and I loved seeing the plan become more and more real. And I absolutely LOVED those last pages. Sure, the cover spoils it, though I have to say I didn’t even notice as I was that much into the story, haha.

OH OH and I love that last page! Go Santa!

Be sure to check out the gorgeous end papers!

Oh, and the illustrations were wonderful again, as expected by Sarah Warburton! I had fun spotting the dragons in various illustrations and I loved getting gorgeous BIG spreads of her work. Several I wouldn’t mind framing for my walls.

All in all, a really fun Christmas book perfect for today (and the next two days). I would highly recommend it!
