Review: Truffle’s Christmas
A perfect little Christmas tale about a mouse with big wishes!
I just LOVE finding new Christmas books to read and enjoy during the month of December and I was delighted when I found this one in Dutch at one of my libraries. I am a big fan of mice (had some as pets when I was younger) and so a whole book of mice being adorable and it is set during Christmas? Yes, yes, please!
In this delightful picture book we meet a mouse named Truffle. He and his family live in a tunnel in the ground and while they have a good time they don’t have much. It is getting colder and not everyone fits under the blanket (I just wanted to give them a blanket). We see them decorate for Christmas and make some wonderful wishes. Truffle for instance would love a hula-hoop. And that is what he initially asks for until he realises that while a hula-hoop would make him happy a blanket for his family would make everyone happy. But what can you do? Well, Truffle decides, very adorably, to just wait for Santa! Yup. This little mouse knows he cannot send a new letter so what do you do, you spend the night waiting for the old man. Now that sounds quite easy I can hear you say. But believe me dear reader there will be plenty of adventures to be had in this magical night. Some almost scary moments even! I did love that Truffles went so far to see Santa, not many mice would be that brave to go out in the dark and snowy world.
And I loved it when Santa appeared, yes, he was drawn very oddly, but still very recognisable. I was cheering when he popped round and I loved loved loved what he did for the little family of mice. No spoilers, but you will go AWWWW and OMG a lot.
The art was pretty nice, though a bit wonky at times. I mean, what is up with Santa? But the mice were drawn very cute and that is the most important thing for me.
So all in all, I would highly recommend this adorable picture book to all! A mouse! Adventure! Christmas Magic! It is the perfect book for today and the upcoming days~
