New Year’s Book Tag (2026 Edition)

Afternoon all!

Girl with a staff and a book moving left and right

A very happy welcome to the first tag of 2026, and just like last year that is New Year’s Book Tag! The 2026 edition of this one~

I love doing this tag. Yes, it is a bit of work, but when I start writing I just love it. Love finding books. Thinking of goals. Thinking of what I want to do this upcoming year. This year it was tough to just pick 3 non-bookish goals, I have like 5 that I would like this year. For my blog I will mention 3 most important ones.

Plus, I hope I have more luck with my books this year. That first question? I checked my answers from last year and I DNF-ed 4 books and 1 I didn’t start.

Let’s get started! Let me know in the comments if any of my books are on your list (and which you think I should read the first) + if you have any fun plans/resolutions~

How many books are you planning to read in 2025?

As I have said before and I will say it again, I don’t do numbers! I do have a set thingie on Goodreads but that is purely so I can do the challenges there. Other than that I just want to read read and read and we will see at the end of the year how much I read.

Name 5 books you didn’t get to in 2025 but want to make a priority in 2026.

🥰 We Came to Welcome You by Vincent Tarado (added to my Kindle late 2025 and thought I could read it for Spooktober, but then didn’t. Mostly because I just wasn’t into Kindle reading
🥰 Something in the Walls by Daisy Pearce (another one added to my Kindle for Spooktober and like the previous one, not in the mood for Kindle reading)
🥰 The Ghostkeeper by Johanna Taylor (a book I really wanted to buy but it was either too expensive or not in stock at Amazon/Libristo, this year for sure though)
🥰 When You Wish Upon a Lantern by Gloria Chao (another one I got mid/late 2025 and then just never got to it)
🥰 Death in the Cards by Mia Manansala (got this late 2025 and was thinking of reading it but then never got to it)

Mostly spooky things this year! I am excited! Hopefully I can get to these books this year~ Though maybe I should get a new Kindle first, I think the main reason for not wanting to read on my Kindle is because my oldie (5+ years) Kindle is just lagging more and more. And emptying his battery faster than he should.

What genre do you want to read more of?

I already read over a wide variety of genres. But I think even more horror would be nice? Last year was a year in which I read quite a bit of horror and I hope to continue that trend. Well, it also depends on how my mood is, haha.

Name 3 non-book-related goals for 2026

🤩 For now Mokka is still alive (even though he has a big tumor and several others) but he is slowly going and when he has left I cannot get any more dwarf hammies (stupid new laws), so I want to turn the hamster room in more space for Lego stuff. That means I will have to sell the cages + get rid of the drawer/wardrobe thingie the cages were standing on. Then maybe do a new paint coat on one of the walls and then buy some new shelves. For now I am not entirely looking forward to it, as I know I can only do all this when my last baby has died, but I am sure eventually I will get into the mood to make the room happy again.
🤩 Buy less items for the house. Well, OK, I already don’t buy a whole lot, but this year I want to be really conscious about what I pick up as decorations for the house. Like instead of picking vases and stuff to put down I want to focus on things to hang as wall decorations. And only the really pretty ones! Not just the pretty/ohhhh ones. Plus, I want to go through the things I bought through the years, see what I really want to keep and what not. Then bring those no items to second-hand stores or bring them to a recycling center near me. I have already started this last year but want to really go for it this year.
🤩 As I said last year, do more things with my hubby. With everything in our lives we just at times forget to go out. Yes, I love playing games and doing a LEGO day, but I would like to go out for more days away from the house. More zoo trips. More museums. Find new places to eat. Visit the beach with Coco.

What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

Well, I do have a few books on a DNF/not in the mood stack, not a whole lot, but maybe this year I will give them a try again and see if I can move them permanently to the no thank you stack or get to reading them.

One word that you’re hoping 2023 will be.

Mmm. Let’s think about this. Last year I picked Happy. This year I am going for Relax. Relax more. Less stress (or try to). Don’t take things to heart so much. Just let it all slide away. Relax!
