Review: Lockett & Wilde The Ghosts of the Manor

Review: Lockett & Wilde The Ghosts of the Manor

Lockett & Wilde The Ghosts of the Manor by Lucy Strange + Pam Smy, blue/black cover with two people heading towards a big mansionWhat starts as fake ghost stuff ends with real ghosts and a great mystery!

I had heard quite a bit about this book through bloggerverse and BlueSky and so when my library (magically) got this one in English I just had to reserve it and then read it! This was a blast!

😍 Loved that she travelled with her aunt/uncle and that they had a medium/spiritual show thingie going on. A fake one, but one that was excellently done. With tons of spookiness, effects, and more.
😍 The aunt and uncle were such interesting and fun characters! I love how much they care for Matilda and I love how dedicated they are to their business. I also love their romance/the banter between them, and then there is that marriage proposal thingie that they have, oh my.
😍 Loved the Manor + the mystery + the characters around it. The manor was an old one, with secret passages, mysterious sounds, and other fun things. You just want to stay there for the night!
😍 Fantastic spooky things + I love that Matilda can see things~ I was already thinking it would just all be fake, but then we see that Matilda can actually see ghosts. That she can sense them, talk with them, figure out who they are, and more. And the ghosts (next to Wilde) are fun!
😍 Loved the chapters sub titles! Giving us a hint/glimpse what to expect! It always makes me smile when writers go above and beyond on chapter titles, not just numbers but instead giving us a sentence, or more.
😍 The seances! So much fun, especially when real ghosts got involved!
😍 Loved the illustrations and that they were blue/gray/black/white. Curious if in the next book, which has a yellow/gold with black/white feel to it will have illustrations in that colour. I would love that!
😍 Edgar was such a fun character and I loved how he and Matilda bonded and went to solve the case together. And how they got closer and slowly figured out more about Edgar and who he was/who he is.
😍 The ending (treasure hunt, everything coming together, the mystery of her aunt/uncle) was so much fun and I loved it. I just love how it all came together and how it all felt like the last pieces of the puzzle, now we finally see the complete picture! The treasure hunt especially, I wanted to join in so badly. The manor already sounded like such a fun place, imagine figuring out clues and finding treasure? It makes it all much better!

So this girl? She needs more. I am definitely going to be buying the second book!
