Review: Mikaela Shiffrin
I received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I really love the Little People Big Dreams series. Back when it started years ago I thought it would just be a couple of books. As that is how it goes with series like this. Instead we are still going on and I just LOVE seeing what each new book brings.
In this book we learn all about Mikaela Shiffrin. I have to be honest, I heard about her, maybe seen her if I watched Olympics, but generally know nothing much about. So that is why I wanted to read the book, to learn about a whole new person.
So it was a great delight to learn how she started with her love for the sports (apparently when she was 2 she was trying to gain in on her brother while on a snowboard, so cute) and then we see how she got better and better and started doing competitions. From the World Cup to Olympics, she was still quite young when she got her first HUGE win and I was just applauding for her. That is fantastic. I also love seeing her train hard to get even better, but I love it even more that she didn’t grow overly confident but remembered her dad’s words to be kind, smart and thoughtful.
I am also delighted that with the new crop of books that they are adding the timeline which includes photographs and more information. I always missed those back in the day when I first started reading/reviewing these books. The ARCs generally did have the page up but nothing much added. So thank you to the publishers for adding this!
And the illustrations? They were so cute and gorgeous and I love how colourful they were. Everything just POPPED.
All in all, I learned a lot about this woman and I love all she has accomplished. I hope she is able to get even more achievements and have fun skiing.
