Review: Black Sheep
“It was never a good sign when charismatic men started talking apocalypse.”
🥰 Our MC, with the awesome name Vesper! She wasn’t always the easiest to like, but then again given her childhood with everyone adoring her and her own mom being abusive by neglect/harsh words/other things you can imagine why she turned out the way she did. But I still liked her for most and I loved her spunk. I love that despite everything she kept trying. Even if the job was horrendous. Even if things weren’t easy, she kept going. Even if it meant she had to struggle through things.
🥰 While on the one hand I didn’t want her to accept that invitation, I mean, it was just to sussy. Not to mention if my ex and my cousin would get married like hell I would go. They can have fun together. But I could also understand why Vesper wanted to go back. Plus, hey, otherwise we wouldn’t have a book, haha. The way she left was one that caused a stir in the community/cult, plus she was curious about the invite, and I guess I can understand a little revenge as well.
🥰 When we find out what the religion/cult that Vesper’s family is. I had a good suspicion given the title and some parts of the blurb, but seeing them say that I was OH HECK. OH HECKITY HECK. Welp, now I want to know more.
🥰 I loved it as we found out more and more about the cult/religion. Things really got messy and messed up. What happens if you leave (you can never come back), about the church underground, about the rituals that happen (from getting presents at certain ages to killing lambs), from school uniforms specifically for this group, and more. Definitely terrifying.
🥰 Learning more about the MC’s family. From her mom who was (and is) an abusive bitch who definitely shouldn’t have gotten our MC given how rotten she was throughout her childhood. To her missing dad. Especially the missing dad by the way. Seeing how our MC idolizes and misses him. See little flashbacks. And oh yes, learn a fucked-up secret that had me GASPING as it was such a reach but at the same time it all made fucking sense. Beautiful!
🥰 Getting some flashbacks as the story continued/seeing her understand the memories she had and what truly happened.
🥰 Seeing her leave again and what happens next and then see her returning once more. The terrifying things that happen during that time and the time when she returned. The big secret truly out and about. See all the pieces just line up. It felt like I was in a rollercoaster with no way out and I didn’t even want to get out because it was that good. I wanted to know how this all would end. With a bang? The world gone? Something totally different? I was hoping our MC would be able to rise from this.
🥰 The epilogue! I am always happy to get a x months/years after the events parts at the end of books and this one didn’t disappoint, it was fabulous. And maybe also sad given things there.
All in all, this was one HECK of a ride and I definitely need to keep on reading Rachel Harrison’s books!

I enjoyed this one too.
Have you read her other books?
This is also the only Rachel Harrison book I’ve read, and I also had great fun reading it. I need to pick up another book by her but I haven’t made up mind which one it will be yet…
She has quite a few books! So far I have read Bad Dolls, Play Nice, So Thirsty, and this one. I think I would say go for Play Nice~
