Review: Perfectly Fine on My Own, So My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind, Vol.1
I received this book from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
In this one we meet a girl named Nicole who is done with her fiancee and his constant ignoring (or talking about another girl) the whole time and decides she just will do her own thing. Yup. I just loved that idea and so I couldn’t wait to get reading.
Nicole is such a sweet character and you just want to root for her. I loved how strong she is. A lot of these manga either have the MC go for revenge or just stop caring for anything, but instead here we have a girl who is looking forward to quiet times and just do whatever she wants. Going for tea? You don’t need a fiancee! Going for a walk? No guys needed. Yes, it is unconventional given the setting, but that only made me laugh her even more. She is so strong.
“I see a very quiet weekend in my future. And not just this weekend, but the next.. and the next. I know! I’ll visit the bookstore. It’s been ages after all. I could do much worse than to curl up with a good book.” Lady Nicole after realising that she is much better off without her horrible fiancee. I love this girl. I already loved her in chapter one but now? Even more. Let’s go bookworms! And this girl is constantly going to books even going so far to study a language so she can read more books. THIS GIRL, I LOVE HER!
I loved reading about the various events from giving bouquets to bazars to letters and more. It was great fun and it gave more insight in the world.
I had even more fun at how people reacted. At first it was mockery and pity and teasing but as soon as they saw Nicole had just embraced the life of a single woman/didn’t care about her arranged marriage the people started rooting for her and getting offended for her sake when they spotted her alone or not getting anything. Or that one time when she was learning a new language for books and people totally misunderstood. It made me giggle and I love that Nicole is building up a group of people who are there for her, sometimes a bit fanatically, haha. The misunderstandings, oh my.
And I loved that we got other people’s POV. Like for instance the princess and when we got her POV my whole idea of her just FLIPPED around. I had expected her to be X but she was actually Y!
And the same for Keios.
Oh lord, that extra bit. Not just Nicole’s but also Keios’ POV which just gave us even more insight in how he views Nicole. Plus, I love that it is not just text but also a manga adaptation of it. LOVE.
The art is so much fun and I love the style.
All in all, I love how my expectations are just flipped around. How for quite a bit you think it is going X but then you learn about everything else and now you want it to go Y. LOVE it. I need more and I cannot wait to see this series continue. HIGHLY recommended!
