Review: Adventuremice: The Ghostly Galleon

Review: Adventuremice: The Ghostly Galleon

Adventuremice: The Ghostly Galleon by Sarah McIntyre + Philip Reeve, cover featuring a gallon at sea with all sorts of cute ghost miceGet ready for a tale of spookiness! Treasure! And more! The Adventuremice are on the case!

So back in 2023 I read the first Adventuremice book and I had so much fun with it! Then for some reason I just didn’t get the other books as they released, but now I am remedying that. I want to get all the books and then eagerly await each new book!

The Rescue Rangers, um, Adventuremice are back in a new story! This time two of our mice are off to check out something when they hear the spooooooky tales about a spooooooky galleon by a fearsome captain (Cheesebeard, which was just perfect). They come to a small isle and when they help out and things go hilariously wrong they end up seeing that ghost ship that they heard about. I had such a laugh how the roles just flipped. Pedro was the scaredycat but now he was the sceptic and Skipper was the tough mice turned to scaredycat. I loved seeing the ghosts, of course I knew right away what was really going on, I mean it was totally obvious for me (and Pedro given how he went full detective mode, haha). But I don’t mind. Again, the clues are right there. And I think kids may also figure it out, but still, like me, have fun with it. What will our Adventuremice do after all?

I loved that Pedro was eager to solve the mystery and get to the bottom of everything and I was happy that the Adventuremice also were there to help out. I had such a giggle when they wore THAT, no I won’t spoil it, but I was just in stitches. And I loved seeing how the rest of the adventure went with the ghosts, but also the aftermath of it all. I love how the Adventuremice didn’t judge or say anything instead they immediately went into help mode and tried to figure out the best way to do things. I would absolutely LOVE to visit this little isle. Can we please make something so we can travel into books? I wouldn’t mind being a little mouse and discover this world.

I adored the names of the isles/places, the names of the cast, of the animals we meet, everything. It brought a smile on my face.

I absolutely LOVED the Scooby Doo reference at the end with the big ghost captain. That just made me giggle in happiness. I am a big SD fan, so seeing this? Perfection!

As I said in my review for the first book we know that humans are there but in this one we just don’t see them at all. No notion. No mention. No nothing. And I really love that as it just makes things even more fun in my eyes. No annoying meddling humans. Nope, just a wonderful adventurous world with mice and other animals.

As always when Sarah McIntyre draws, it is perfect. I love her style, the designs, the details, the colours, the way it just makes the story come totally alive and makes it extra fun/adventurous.

All in all, I am glad that I waited with this series because now I got plenty more books to read! This is such a sweet and fun series and I would recommend it to all!
