Review: Bow Wow Said the Cow

Bow Wow Said The Cow by Mateo Llinás, little cow with a purple bow frolicking in the meadow full of flowersI received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

When I got the request from the author to read their book I just couldn’t resist. I loved Babe (aka the little piglet who thought he was a dog) and so I was very curious about a cow barking like a dog!

In this one we meet our farmer as he is having a lovely night just relaxing. Until one moment he hears a loud bark! BOW WOW! Of course, he is going on exploration probably thinking that a dog or a puppy had gotten onto his farm. I loved seeing him explore the farm and then go to the stable to figure out what made the noise! BOW WOW! I am not sure if I would be as brave as the farmer, but that is probably because I read my fair bit of horror featuring farms and strange noises, haha. While I knew what the sound was making (thanks to the cover/the blurb/the title) I was still curious to see how long it would take the farmer to notice/to figure things out, plus, I wanted to see more of this cute calf. I had a laugh that, because he thought it was a dog, he had brought along a bone. I think this little dog calf would rather have some hay or grass, dear farmer.😉 I had a small moment of being angry at the farmer, but thankfully he turns it to positivity and I liked him again. I guess it was a shock for him, you expect x and then see y.

I loved that the book was in rhyme, it made the story even more fun and playful.

The art is so whimsical and fun! It brought a smile to my face! And in a time with more and more authors going for AI pukes I am so delighted that the author decided to not go that way and draw their own illustrations.

The book was really fun with a sweet message: be free to be who you please and stay true to yourself! I had a great time reading it and I would recommend it! I am sure kids will love this book and enjoy it greatly.
