I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.

Well, this was OK. It had its moments. I think it would work better as an animation as it felt pretty stilted/framebyframe in the graphic novel. Plus, the parents were just terrible, I am glad at least they understood they were wrong but I hope they include Finnik a bit more/start caring more about the kids. But yeah, both those two things almost made me want to drop/DNF the graphic novel as they were quite annoying. I have to say I also didn’t entirely care about the POV of the parents. I much rather followed Finnik as he went about his way.

Finnik was brave, but also gosh golly he was an idiot, haha. But I love how dedicated he was to his little sister and how he tried to be there for her and protect her. They really have a close bond and I loved seeing it grow as their adventure continued as see them, in their way, communicate (the baby can say some words but not much). I loved how he tried to get back home, maybe in a big round-about way, but it was at least a way. I loved seeing him gain a bit more smarts as the story continued and see him figure out how monsters tick/how to get through situations.

And boy, the surroundings were just a hoot! We have dinosaurs, monsters, some sort of dragons, lava bubbling everywhere, angry bugs (though to be fair I would also be pissed if someone used me a lotion dispenser), sticky vines that will trap an entire big monster if the monster is dumb enough, rivers that flow like an attraction ride, and there is more. I loved this world and I love to explore it with Finnik as he went along his way.

I also liked meeting that new character, he was an even bigger idiot than Finnik but he made me laugh. With his cave of drawn on furniture (or half-drawn in case of the guest room) and his weird ways.

The ending and how things got even more exciting? Love it! I won’t spoil anything, but it was terrific.

All in all, I did have fun with this one, but I just wish it was better. I will still recommend it for those good things that I mentioned, and who knows maybe one day we will see this one on TV/streaming services, again it would make a fun series or single episode.
