I received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review!

First up I have to give kudos to the author for making me think this book was x but it was y! It wasn’t until the end that I was like, wait. Wait. WAIT!

Secondly, this book was so much fun! Meet Sweetpea Magee. She is a mermaid expert. Yes, really. Like the most awesome thing to be, or at least, I wouldn’t mind being a mermaid expert, haha. I was curious how much of an expert she was, and well, she got pages full of mermaid information. From what kind (puddles, rivers, domestic, and others) to what their likes and dislikes are, what their enemies and friends are, cute art on it, and more. It was just the cutest and I loved it. Plus, I also love the way the mermaids were drawn. I have read a lot of mermaid books and I have seen many forms but the way this author/illustrator did it was very creative. Like the puddle mermaids? They are all punks/tough mermaids. Pond mermaids? They are shy and much rather hide under the lilies. It was so much fun to see each of the mermaids and see Sweetpea tell us about them and give us tips on approaching them.

And again, for most of the book I thought this was x, but then she starts to hunt for a cave mermaid and let’s say from the first encounter I had a suspicion, and then when we met another one I was like, ah, yes, we are going in that direction. And sure, maybe I was a bit sad, but you know, once again kudos for making me think the book was x. That last page was brilliant! And no, I won’t tell you exactly what is happening. Find out while reading. And I don’t consider it a spoiler to tell you that the book may be different than what you think as there are many ways a book can do that. I will leave you with that.

The art was just so pretty and so fun. I loved the mermaid designs. I loved the places they lived and how it looked. I loved the last part and the journey to the cave mermaid. It was so adventurous!

All in all, I would recommend this book to everyone! Read this one! It is oodles of fun~
