Review: The Villainess and Villain Try to Avoid Another Unhappy Ending, Vol.1

The Villainess and Villain Try to Avoid Another Unhappy Ending Vol.1 by Umiyamaneko, two people in fancy clothes holding each otherWhat if you get isekai-ed to the world of a light novel your sister was reading? What if you were the villainess?

Another one of the villainess manga I was reading at the end of February/start of March. I really loved the blurb and the cover was cute as well! Plus, I just cannot resist a fun villainess story in which a villainess is trying to do better.

Meet Honoka, she just had the worst day with her fiancee dumping her for a younger girl and to make matters worse just when she thought things may turn out all right (matchmaking photographs) she falls down the stairs. Yup. If it isn’t truck-kun it is stairs-kun doing the isekai. She lands in the world of a light novel she saw her sister reading and learns she is the villainess, or the villainess the be. And boy, we quickly learn why she would become a villainess. Her sister is a bully, her dad an asshole. They expect her to eat meals with bugs in them. She isn’t allowed to go to many places. Has the worst dresses. Thankfully, she has her books. Filled with magic! And thankfully Clarisse/Honoka is a clever cookie and she quickly tries to figure things out. I really loved Clarisse/Honoka and how she tries her best to make the best of what is thrown at her. Because a lot of crap is thrown at her, people all have heard rumours about her (none kind) and it is affecting how people treat her.

And then there is Eduard. Eduard who should have been a dimwit. A nitwit. The idiot of the family. But he turns out to be actually smart. Yup. You guessed it. He is also isekai-ed, and there is a bigger twist as well that made me want to ship these two even more. Yes, I want to ship them from the start of the meeting. As soon as they laid eyes on each other they each had the views from the novel in their head and so they thought it wouldn’t be good, they should avoid each other. But Eduard totally fanboys over Clarisse and Clarisse is getting all swoony and heart skipping. It was so cute to see and I loved Eduard immediately, especially when he did that for Clarisse. Though he, um, may have skipped a few steps, haha.

I enjoyed them going to school and I hope that we see more moments there. I also loved that Clarisse was able to change people’s opinion on her, it wasn’t easy, but people were changing. I also loved that she made some friends there that are super supporting. I mean, they just know her but when they learn she has to see prince Arnold and she is not in the mood for that they come along! So sweet!

What I didn’t enjoy was the heroine of the light novel. She is totally different from what she normally is and you can make a good guess why. I hated her and her attitude and I was fully on team get her the fuck away from our sweet couple. I hope she doesn’t become even more of a bother because seriously. Eww. Go away.
And another character that I didn’t like was Prince Arnold. He never once cared to check on his fiancee, he never once thought to say hi and check if the rumours were correct, he just assumed. Then when he learns the truth he flips and wants her for himself. Um, dude, you had your chance. Now go away. Geez. I was just disgusted by him, and totally didn’t think he would be this type to do this.

I would recommend this one to all fans of isekai x villainess! It was a lot of fun and I am just hoping that Clarisse and Eduard get their happy ending!

Star rating, 5 stars
