Review: Werelock and Scratch: Mystery Most Puzzling
A wonderful interactive mystery with a fantastic duo! I had so much fun!
π¦ββ¬ Love the illustrations they are so fun and I love the style, definitely need to see what Binny Talib has done next to this one.
π¦ββ¬ Love that, unlike quite a few books with mysteries, we the reader get an opportunity to guess for ourselves by thinking, looking back, checking the map before Scratch and Werelock go to that place. The raven lets us know that it is time for us to think, do we know what is going? Think back! Aka it is all very interactive! And I loved every bit of it. It was so much fun and I really appreciate the addition.
π¦ββ¬ Love Scratch’s interruptions between the story! Not just the parts with having the reader figure things out, but also between the normal story. He is such a fun character and I really liked him. I was at first a bit worried given he is a fair bit older/more jaded, but he was just the perfect partner for the young Werelock.
π¦ββ¬ Werelock is such a fun character and I love his drive. He doesn’t always make the smartest decisions (fire ants anyone), but he does his best and I love it. He never gives up and does some great things. Plus, I love that he is getting books to learn new things and then is able to use those things in cases + use items he has gained through the case.
π¦ββ¬ I want to live in this town! Full of fun things and interesting inhabitants (gargoyles, vampires, ghouls, gnomes, and more). We get a map at the start (LOVE) and I could just imagine wandering the town.
π¦ββ¬ Raven Network Assemble! YESSS! Love that the ravens all work together, gossiping, news, and more.
π¦ββ¬ The Library! With each aisle something else, including one for kraken/mermaids~ I just want to visit it so much. See what books there are, what fun things to read. We really need a teleporter for stories.
π¦ββ¬ The mystery was perfection! I loved the little details, the case notes, discovering the town as we went along. It was a fun engaging story.
π¦ββ¬ The culprit. Which I guessed before Werelock, whoo! I just love it when I crack the case before the MC does, and no it isn’t easy or simple, it was really fun to put one and one together.
π¦ββ¬ The last bit with the election, that was hectic, but also so fun and I was on the edge of my chair reading!
π€¨ But please can we just call it kill/murder instead of that lame unalive I see creeping along in so many places?
All in all, I desperately need the second book! I want to see what is next for our duo and see them solve this case!
