Review: Bert and the Bubble
A sweet story about sharing, being careful, and friendship.
How could I resist a book that looked so much fun? A small frog and a big smiley bubble? I just had to know more!
In this one we meet Bert. Bert is a frog with fun clothes who meets bubbles. Yes. Multiple bubbles. We first meet two and then we get to the main bubble, the one on the cover, the one that Bert is so fiercely protective of. And well, after seeing what happened to the first two bubbles I could imagine why Bert wanted to just protect and hide the bubble. I am sure his friends didn’t mean to do it, but it definitely felt like it. Poor Bert. He was so happy with the bubbles and I love how the illustrator showcased his emotions when the bubbles popped. Perfection.
When the big bubble comes the story truly begins. And I have to say, I wanted that bubble as well. Look at that cute face. Look at those colours. It is just so pretty. You would want to treasure it as well. And I had a bit of a giggle seeing how Bert was trying to protect his bubble. From painting it to just building something around it (though I have to say seeing that bubble just peeking out of a bit was given me creepy vibes, haha, sorry I read too much horror). I was definitely curious as to how this story would end. Would the bubble pop? Would his friends be allowed to be around it (because everyone in that frog country seemed to love the bubble)? Would they be able to have fun moments? And I won’t spoil anything, but I can tell you that I enjoyed it and I feel that Bert has really grown as the story continued (though again, I also don’t blame him for going as far as he went). The last pages were such fun and they made me smile.
The art? I absolutely loved the art. It was such a fun style full of colour and again I love how the bubbles were drawn.
All in all, a fun story that I really enjoyed and I am glad I found it at the library and got the chance to read it. Recommended.
