A spooky fun story featuring vampires, feeling better in your body, first love, and ghosts! This was so fun!

I had this book on my mental TBR for a while and I was super delighted when I found the book at a second hand part of a bookstore in English even! Of course, this one had to immediately come home with me. And I had so much fun with this one.

😍 I always love a summer camp story! Especially one set in the US. We don’t have such camps here. We do have some summer camp stuff, but nothing as grand as what you often read about in books from the US. OK, this one featured not that much from those grand camps because a lot of things are banned, but there is a lake! There are activities. There are cabins.
😍 Maggie was such a fun character though I just wanted her to have a bit more confidence in her abilities and skills. Yes, she has stage fright, but as the story continues we learn that she has skills with theatre! She can sing! She can also dance. And act. She just has to get over her stage fright and confidence issues. I think going to this camp has helped though and I was so proud at how far Maggie came at the end. And not just in regards to the whole theatre stuff (because despite everything she did try out), but also in regards to her body. She is still unsure, but she feels more secure in her body and I was proud that she was able to tell her parents that. Plus, she was so strong and I loved her dedication to keep the camp safe and rescue her friends. A lot of people would have just run for the hills when they hear vampires are sucking people dry, but she thinks of a plan, eventually gets more people on her side, and she never gives up. I was really rooting for her as the story continued.
😍 Kit and Evelyn were such fun characters and I love how quickly they became a trio of friends. I loved getting to know each of the girls and see why they were here and what their skills/hobbies were.
😍 Sylvia. AKA super spooky grumpy vampire boss. She is the perfect antagonist, though I had a laugh at how quickly her temper flared. This woman makes up new rules each day because something didn’t work out for her. She probably thought a summer camp full of plump juicy blood donations would be easy, but sorry woman but these are humans and they have their own plans. I loved learning more about Sylvia, about what happened to her and why she ended up a vampire, and what big plans she had. And that blood bank (with airco and snacks) was a brilliant idea. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
😍 The other vampires that we meet later on, I had such a laugh at how terrible they were at digital stuff. OK, I have to say that the trope does get a bit old, if I were a vampire I would at least try to keep up with things.
😍 I had such a giggle that all the foods were red in some way. That is dedication to the cause there.
😍 I loved Maggie’s friend. She is so sweet and caring and while we don’t see her a whole lot, she does pop up. And I love what she did for Maggie that one time, that is dedication. Earlier on we see that Maggie is having a tough time. I mean, she is having fun at camp and she is making new friends, but she misses her bestie and is worried that her bestie may forget her. So I was delighted that the author did that and I was just loving the friendship between the two even more.
😍 Howie, or the ghost in the water. He was such a fun addition!
😍 B, the counsellor/the one working at the camp. She was a bit gruff at points between the silly/happy moments, but as you learn more about her + why she is like that she becomes a really fun and sweet character and I felt for her. I just wanted to give her a hug.
😍 The blooming romance between Maggie and a guy from the camp. They were so adorable together!
😍 Seeing the big plan come together and then see how things went at the end. I was already loving the book, but those last moments really had me glued to the page. It was an excellent plan and I was just applauding for the kids and rooting that everything would work out!

😒 I just wasn’t such a fan of the parents. Maggie’s first and foremost of course. How they made it seem like their daughter was going to that special camp she wanted to visit only to just throw her in front of a bus with the announcement just mere days before the camp started that she was going somewhere else. Fat camp. I just wanted to shake those parents. The dad at least seemed to be a bit on the fence of this was a good idea, but the mom was all about THIN THIN THIN. And I get it, she was a bigger girl when she was younger and felt bad until she lost weight, but you don’t need to push so hard for your daughter. If she wants to lose weight or have worries about it then you can think about things. Now, nah.

All in all, this was an exciting and fun book! I loved the addition of vampires and I loved how at times things were so funny and light and then the next things would go scary (like with that one counsellor who counted the kids and kept asking to come in). I would recommend it!
