Review: Dim Sum Palace
A girl obsessed with dim sum. A big big dream. And something real!
This is one of the books I wanted to read for my picture book challenge this year. Which I totally forgot about until now (now being mid-April). I checked my list and this one definitely called out the loudest. It looked so fun (and yummy).
In this book we meet a little girl named Liddy who loves, no is obsessed with dim sum. When we meet her she is about to go to sleep, eagerly awaiting the next day when her family goes to her favourite restaurant, namely a dim sum one! Yup. But thankfully she doesn’t have to wait a long time for dim sum as she quickly dreams a wonderful foodie dream full of adventure and dim sum. It gave me all the Spirited Away vibes along with some other fairy tale vibes. From the kitchen to an empress. At first a bit scary but then a lot of fun. I loved seeing Liddy have a great dream, but I also had a big laugh that the next day she was even hungrier for dim sum. I don’t know about you, but if I had such a dream, including a part involving almost being eaten, I would be full. I would be done. But not Liddy. This girl is even more motivated to go to the restaurant and eat some dim sum for real now.
The illustrations were oh so much fun, I like the style and how it fits so well with the story/the character. I also love the endpapers of the book, filled with food that made me hungry. Yum!
All in all, I really enjoyed this fun story of a girl obsessed to the heavens with dim sum!
