Review: Ghost Town in the Mountains
I received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
When I saw the cover + the title I just had to get this book. Doesn’t it look fabulous?
And while I had fun, I guess for me it didn’t help that I just didn’t had the song in my mind that this one is written on. I know the song. But since it is not one I often hear as I am not from the US, it is just not a standard record to play when I ask my head for songs. So for me the story was fun but it just missed oompf. It just felt a bit all over the place. Which is a shame.
But there were elements I loved. I loved seeing two kids sneak out of their house to go to a ghost town and discover the place. Check out various buildings. Go inside one (which had me going NO don’t go there), see them all excited (or in case of one of the kids totally terrified), see them discover things, and then very scary things happen! I really loved how one of the two was just so brave and just went inside everything to check things out but then was the first one out when things got spooky!
I also loved seeing all the ghost throughout the book and spotting them. There are ton of them and I just had fun spotting them in their various places and see their expressions.
The illustrations were also really great and I loved the end papers as well.
But yeah, I think this would just work better if you know the song better/can get it in your head when you think of it.
