What happens when you find the best tree? And too many toucans who just won’t listen to your plans?

I just love it when I find a Youtube video of books being read by their authors/illustrators. That just makes it so much more special!

In this one we meet a little toucan named Toco. He is looking around for the just the right spot for his new home and thinks he found it. There are leafy greens, there are fresh yummy berries, and perfect branches. I loved seeing him draw out his plans and see him get eager to get started. And when the first neighbour appears he lets them. But then more and more toucans appear to help out and I just wanted to give Toco a hug, because these new toucans? They don’t listen. They don’t care about Toco’s plans. They have plans of their own and they are making that. I just wanted to shout at them, telling them to STOP STOP STOP and to LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN. Since I couldn’t do anything I just read on and saw with wonder what the toucans were building (in fairness I thought it was going to be trash especially how wonky some parts were, haha). But I was curious if this was going to be the end. Would Toco just not have a home? Would he have to move? But then something happens, I won’t tell you what, that sparks Toco to SPEAK UP and tell the toucans what he wanted. I was so proud of my little toucan and I was cheering for him. The next pages were so sweet and wonderful and, again, I wanted to step inside the story because it was just so sweet (plus, I wanted those cakes).

The art was just so sweet and I loved the style. I adored that Toco was the one toucan that stood out from the others. The others were just your normal toucan with maybe some different eye shading. But Toco had a pink/yellow/orange beak and pink shading around their eyes. He really stood out! Plus, I loved seeing the building happen and what the toucans build both at first and later!

All in all, this was such a sweet book about finding your home, what happens when too many toucans try to help, and how to speak up. I would recommend this one!
