A laugh-out-loud manga about a boy with big dreams and enthusiasm! Set in the world of Minecraft!

OMG, I didn’t think I would enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. I spotted this first volume at one of my libraries and thought it would be fun, I am not a minecraft player but I do love the stories about it. And this was just so fun!

Meet our shounen protagonist, Nico White. I am saying shounen protagonist because just like every s/p Nico is full of enthusiasm, is a bit brainless, helps out wherever he can no matter what, doesn’t get fazed by anything, and loves everything. But you know, it works in this one. Nico is just someone you want to root for. Someone you want to see get into all the adventures. Someone you want to be next to when he discovers the world. When we first meet him he is a little kid and he gets into scrapes the whole time. Much to the frustration to his mother who tries everything to keep him into his room (even making it out of iron, yup, told you he was a shounen protagonist), also because she doesn’t want to lose him like she lost her husband. You see, in this family there is an symbol. If that glows on your hand it is time for you to head out and find the end of the world (yup it is that kinda quest). Of course, we the reader know that that symbol will glow because this series is all about Nico’s adventure. But I enjoyed that we didn’t immediately headed out for adventure, instead got to meet Nico, his family and the village, see some of the things he does before it all kicks off.

But when it kicks off it was just so much fun! We discover the various worlds in Minecraft. From forests to deserts. We meet a zombie-esque man and many normal zombies as well. We see creepers and pillagers, we learn about Nico’s powers (which are so cool, but also typical for a shounen protagonist, haha), we see skills get levelled, and much more. There is just never a boring moment and before I knew it I was at the end. This manga made me smile, made me laugh, and most importantly, root for Nico. To find his dad. To find the end.

The art was really fun, you get to keep the blockiness of what Minecraft is, but also have animation, movement, and more.

All in all, I will have to see if the library has the other books in the series, because I want more! Hopefully by the time this review goes life I will have been able to read them! I would recommend this series to fans of the series or just ones in the mood for something fun and adventurous!
