Teaser Tuesday ~ Magnolia by Kristi Cook
I used Random.org and it selected page 157.
I’m still in the big Jacuzzi tub when the power flickers -once, twice- and then goes out, leaving me in total darkness, chin deep in lukewarm water. I don’t know why, but it all hits me then -Nan’s surgery tomorrow, shooting that mocassin, this stupid never-ending storm. I start to cry, deep, gulping sobs. I know it seems childish, but I want my daddy. What if things get worse? What if the house starts to flood? Or the roof blows off? As much as I hate to admit it, I’m scared. Really scared.
Friday’s Page 69 ~ Confessions of an Angry Girl
“Yeah, well, he’s never going to find out, is he?”
My marker falls out of my hand and down into the space between my bed and the wall. I expect him to say he’s sorry, but he doesn’t say anything at all, and the silence is weird, like he’s waiting for me to call him out for talking like that. But I can’t. I can’t even believe he said it in the first place.

The book grabbed me because of the Romeo and Juliet retelling part. Now while indeed you can see the references, I would rather called it inverted Romeo and Juliet or Romeo and Juliet with a twist. Instead of having parents/family who hate each other, we got 2 families/2 parents couples who love each other and are trying (too hard it seems) to get their 2 kids together and let them get married.
