Mid 2024 is here and that means I welcome you all to a new Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag!! It is time!

While it is always a bit of a work to get this post all up and ready and I am also eager to this. This year, just like in 2022, I had to find some more motivation. This year hasn’t been the easiest with me having to get back in contact with my mom, seeing my dad as he is with Alzheimer, stressing out about all of that, seeing family again. PHEW. But in the end I can say that I am happy I did this post, it was a nice distraction from it all. It was fun to think about books and what to pick for this post. Sorry if at times I kept it a bit short, again, my head is just overflowing at this point.

I am not too sure who the original creator is of this tag, so shoot me a comment if you know/want me to add that. I found this one on Dream Come Review, be sure to check out her answers.

1.) What is the best book you have read so far in 2024?

Phew just one? I could easily make a top 10 as I had quite a few favourites this year. But let’s see. Mm. I guess I will have to go with a more recent read, namely this one:
Feral #1 by Tony Fleecs, scared cat touching blood

This is the first issue in a new series by Tony Fleecs, and BOY I loved every bit of the 30 pages. It gets quite dark and I am all in for that. EEP!

2.) What is the best sequel you have read so far in 2024?

Teddy vs. the Slimy Evil by Braden Hallett, Boy stuck in a tentacle, monsters, fantasy, spooky

Going through my 5+ stars and this is one of the two sequels I read (though I am not sure if I would truly count Volume II of Ankh-Morpork as a sequel per se). So this book it is! And I loved every bit of it, it terrified me to the bone, had some amazing moments, great art, and I just couldn’t stop reading it! My review for the book will be up in August/September as the book hasn’t released yet.

3.) What is a new release that you haven’t read yet but want to?

Sadly, quite a few at this point. Prices for books are high and you just have to be lucky that the price is low enough. I could wait for paperbacks but some books either don’t get them or it takes LONG. But here are a couple of books that I would LOVE LOVE to get sometime.

Best Friends Forever The Graphic Novel by P.J. Night, two girls in a dark room surrounded by dollsSomething Kindred by Ciera Burch, Girl holding a cameraClever Creatures of the Night by Samantha Mabry, House covered in plants with a girl on the roof, horror

4. What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

Ok, my MOST MOST MOST HYPED book would be:

The Book of Bill by Alex Hirsch

I am a big BIG BIG fan of Gravity Falls and I am desperate for more material. So I am excited to get a whole book of the evil that is Bill.

Others that I am hyped about are:

Youth Group by Jordan Morris, Bowen McCurdy, Two characters holding flames and a cross

5. What was your biggest disappointing book so far?

I am quite good at DNF-ing, so let me see if I DNF something far enough in the book or what 1 stars I had this year! Oh, HECK YES, I need to pick this book. That was SO BAD. I thought Oneindig Ver from Feb was BAD, but this one was even worse!
100 First Words for Little Utahns A Board Book by Christopher Robbins, McKay Rappleyea

You can check out my review here, but in short I had expected this one to be a cute book about 100 words for kids, but instead it felt more like a joke book and left me fucking confused about so many things. It didn’t help that Google also wasn’t able to assist so I am still confused. XD

Oh, and I got a book that I disliked even more (0.5 stars) but that apparently didn’t leave as much of a bad taste as this one (even though I HATED everyone in it). I will share it as well. It is this book:
Big Bad by Chandler Baker, Hand with wedding ring and claws making scratch marks

6. What was your biggest surprising book so far?

Stray Dogs Dog Days by Tony Fleecs, Trish Forstner, Small dog entering a red room full of other dogs

I found out about this one in May-ish and going by the reviews I thought this would be nothing good, just a cashgrab, but instead? I loved it. Yes, it was a bit short, but it was also fabulous and so good.

7. Who is your favorite new author (debut or new to you)?

Let’s see, 1) Zack Loran Clark with The Wandering Hour. He is a new to me writer and I need more of his books!
2) Violet Chan Karim, whose Summer Vamp graphic novel I really liked reading! I cannot wait to see what her second book will be!

8. Who is your new fictional crush?

I will go for Dewiela from Eniale!

9. Who is your newest favorite character?

Just like the previous question, I will go for Dewiela from Eniale & Dewiela. I also love angel Eniale, but Lord she can be a threat. XD

10. What books made you cry?

Your Letter by Hyeon A. ChoYuzu the Pet Vet, Vol. 1 by Mingo Ito, Girl and animals, cute, manga

I have to go with these two!

11. What is one book that made you happy?

Stoute Streken by Levina van Teunenbroek, girl on a bus with sparkles

There are MANY books that made me happy and fuzzy inside. I will go for this book, a Dutch one, because it was just oodles of fun with a fun plot, great story, fab characters, and very fun illustrations as well!

And I would love to add this one as it made me sides ache! It was just hilarious!

Bunnies in a Boat by Philip Ardagh, Ben Mantle, Boat with bunnies and chaos

12. What is the most beautiful book you have bought or received so far this year?

Wedding Peach Luxury Edition by Nao Yazawa

You may not see it on this one, but this is special hardcover edition and it is absolutely gorgeous. Glossy paper. Great binding of the book. I cannot wait for the second volume of it!

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Just like every year, I got plenty of books I need/hope/want to read! I still got several books that were released this year that are high on my buy list (but sadly prices for books are insane at times and so it will take a bit longer to get them) + I am building my Vacation TBR for August + I am currently still doing a 2024 re-read of Dragon Ball manga (halfway there). Oh, and I got some books on my e-reader that I need to read, but I just haven’t been in the mood for yet. Hopefully soon. Plus, there are still books coming out this year that I need my grabby hands on. So I won’t be bored!
